About us
Secure and fair democracies need engaged and informed citizens. mySociety helps people be active citizens with technology, research and data used by individuals, journalists, and civil society in over 40 countries around the world. We build and share digital technologies across three interlinked practice areas, Democracy, Transparency and Community; each underpinned by research, sector building and appropriate commercial work. Founded in 2003, we are recognised as a global pioneer in the use of online technologies to help citizens perform civic and democratic tasks – helping establish the Civic Technology sector in the process. We work with digital technologies because they lower the barriers to taking the first civic or democratic steps in a citizen’s life, and can connect people and organisations at scale. Our aim is to enhance civic participation for millions of people, making it possible for them to collectively drive changes in the policy and practice of governments, and ultimately contribute to building effective, accountable and inclusive governance and more equitable, democratic and sustainable societies. Keep up with everything we do via our monthly newsletter: we promise it's always interesting. https://tinyurl.com/mysocietynewsletter

Sir Keir Starmer says the fight for trust is "the battle that defines our political era". In Taiwan the government went from 9% approval rating, when anything they said was automatically distrusted, to a peak of over 70%. There are lessons we can learn and it starts by politicians trusting the people. After yesterday's publication of Demos' Citizens' White Paper (https://lnkd.in/e2hapve7), in partnership with the participation charity Involve, I wrote about the lessons from abroad and why we need a new era of people powered policy making for the Guardian. https://lnkd.in/e7yquZQ8

Ever wondered how we approach our work in the Climate team at mySociety? All becomes clear in Zarino's 16-minute #TICTeC session, "Data, prototyping and partnerships" (in fact - all becomes clear with that title alone! But you can get a lot more detail by watching the video 😀) https://lnkd.in/dbtEyRhA #civictech #climate

OCL's Richard Gevers and Ella Alcock had the pleasure of attending TICTeC (The Impacts of Civic Technology Conference), an annual event organised by mySociety. We connected with like-minded organisations and civic-tech enthusiasts, doing commendable work in civic tech around the world. Together, we explored how civic tech can safeguard democracy and drive climate action, delving into themes like access to information, AI and democracy, and tools for citizen participation. We look forward to implementing the lessons we learnt in our practice going forward!
