"Physical stores must offer a unique, interactive, and experiential alternative that goes beyond online shopping." Partner Tim Gledstone spoke with Architecture Magazine (UK) about the evolution of retail design, drawing on our experience including window displays and installations for Linda Farrow, the Reiss HQ building, and prime retail within mixed-use developments such as Clarges Mayfair. Tim shared how our approach aims to enrich customer experiences and foster loyalty, whilst blurring the lines between sectors in the post-pandemic world. #RetailDesign #RetailInnovation #Architecture #RetailArchitecture

Last week, our Interiors team had the pleasure of hosting A-level work experience students. The students were set a brief to redesign our reception desk, developing a concept tailored to the site and selecting materials from our sample library. The group also spent time with our Illustration team, learning about perspective drawing, and collaborated with our Modelshop team to create physical models. We were impressed by their dedication and innovation, and it was inspiring to witness the creativity of the next generation of designers. #WorkExperience #NextGenDesigners

Introducing art'otel London Hoxton, our largest hotel design in the UK to date, and the latest in PPHE Hotel Group’s collection of contemporary hotels in Europe that fuse architectural style with art-inspired interiors. Commanding a prominent corner site in Shoreditch with 360-degree city views, the cylindrical 26-storey tower offers 357 rooms alongside a public art gallery, auditorium, workspace, bar/restaurants and other guest amenities. Its form and external details relate to the local area’s regeneration and association with technology – with bespoke twisted fins that reference the cogwheels used to build the first analogue computer, as a subtle nod to nearby Silicon Roundabout’s history in the development of the computer. A window into the making of our Japanese Teahouse for TOTO Europe UK. Our modelshop director Beth Mills said, "The TOTO team fully embraced our concept, making it a joy to collaborate with them and the Cipango team. We learned to appreciate Japanese culture and the respect for materials. "It was a satisfying build and a great opportunity to work with unique and finely crafted materials. We enjoyed the contrast between the rugged, heavy steel scaffold frame, which we could erect quickly, and the delicate care needed when handling the copper woven fabric. It was also great to see the space experienced by the public and the genuine sense of calm I felt while sitting inside it." If you haven't visited TOTO’s 'Technology Meets Tradition' exhibition at its London gallery and showroom, you still have two weeks left to experience it before it ends on 31 July.

Following The Department Store Studios' win at this year's RIBA awards, we're thrilled to share that the project has also been shortlisted for an Architecture Today award in the Workplace category. The awards are designed to showcase, celebrate and share knowledge about buildings that have stood the test of time, having been in use for at least three years, and that can demonstrate a strong track record for delivering on their environmental, functional, community and cultural ambitions.

We’re proud to have partnered with Westminster School this year as part of Open City Education’s Young City Makers programme. Working with the year 5 group, we helped the students develop collaboration and model-making skills, while deepening their understanding of their role in shaping our city through in-school workshops and exploring the city. This included a visit to Kings Cross to discuss how buildings can be more sustainable by re-using existing structures and giving them a new purpose. The recent award ceremony celebrated the students' achievements, and we hope the programme will have a lasting impact on these young minds and their urban communities.

This week, I had the pleasure of attending the 15th Real Estate Development Summit | Saudi Arabia Edition, an event filled with valuable insights shared by fantastic speakers. One highlight was learning from Peter’s Cook principles, emphasizing that a building should have a clear idea, be memorable, work in common sense, and feel good. I couldn't agree more with these principles. During these days, I had the opportunity to connect with remarkable individuals from Saudi Arabia and few other parts of the world. Their warm welcome left a lasting impression, and I'm excited that I will be visiting Saudi Arabia again in August. #redseurope2024 #reds2024 #15redsummit #redsummit #gbbventure #realestate #construction #development #luxury #interior #designers #hotel #hospitality #commercialconstruction #residentialrealestate #interiordesigner #tourism #saudiarabia #architects #networking #face2facemeetings #b2bevents
