As part of a project to reinforce the existing sea defence, Broadmead Renaissance Cast Stone produced a series of replacement wave walls. These new wave walls were designed to match the profile of the existing structures, ensuring seamless integration with the current system. The initiative aimed to enhance the durability and effectiveness of the sea defences, providing improved protection against coastal erosion and extreme weather conditions. #BRCS #caststone #seadefence #coastalerosion #wavewalls

We’ve had a busy few weeks at the White Lion Steps in Gorleston-on-Sea. The works have included removing an old, failed retaining structure and installing a new retaining wall to reopen the existing steps. This involved site clearance, excavation, site stabilisation, and the demolition of a partially failed block wall and terrace using remote-controlled demolition equipment for safety and access. #civilengineering #construction #retainingstructure #demolition

We had a great day at the Sizewell C CWA (Civil Works Alliance) Event on Wednesday! It was an excellent opportunity for local Suffolk businesses to engage and connect with the project team and other local supply chain partners. #construction #civilengineering #supplychain
Suffolk Chamber of Commerce is supporting Sizewell C to build the local & regional supply chain from across East Anglia to support the construction of the nuclear new build on the Suffolk Coast.
What a fantastic turnout for the Sizewell C CWA (Civil Works Alliance) Event, hosted at the impressive Sir Bobby Robson Suite within the new Suffolk Chamber of Commerce patron, Ipswich Town FC. This event focused on giving local businesses specialising within the near shore jetty civil works, an update on the project and the opportunity to engage in a two-way discussion with the Sizewell C Civils team. Through roundtable sessions, businesses could foster relationships, ask pressing questions, and offer specialist input on this significant project. The venue buzzed with over 100 attendees, all eager to gain insights into the project's latest developments in civil works and the plans moving forward. Ashley Shorey-Mills, Sizewell C Supply Chain Engagement Director, set the tone by emphasising the importance of businesses showcasing their capabilities, preparing for the project, and using the day's sessions to build key relationships. Following him, Sizewell C Sustainability Analyst Robert Connor Brown, who discussed Sizewell C’s five ESG Supply Chain Delivery Goals, outlining the plans and commitments to achieve each goal. Ryan Phelan, Sizewell C's Civil Works Alliance Supply Chain Manager, then explained the Civil Work Alliance's processes and key engagement approaches, detailing the CWA's scope, segmented into three key operations: Marine & Tunnelling, Earthworks & Enabling, and Main Civil & Ancillary Works. Principal Engineers Barry Donnelly and Nick Kenworthy provided overviews of the Marine Bulk Import Facility (MBIF) and the Beach Landing Facility (BLF), detailing the scope of works, timeline, and logistical processes for completing these tasks. Wrapping up the speaker line up, Sizewell C’s Senior Procurement Manager Michael Walsh discussed the procurement processes, from the Expression of Interest hosted on CompeteFor to the awarded contract. He also highlighted key considerations for businesses, such as a balanced scorecard approach, technical ability, and ESG commitments. Attendees then had the opportunity to network over lunch, where they could build connections with other professionals in the field. Following lunch, participants engaged in two roundtable sessions. These sessions provided a platform for businesses to showcase their expertise, highlight their unique capabilities, and offer valuable industry insights. The interactive discussions allowed attendees to delve deeper into specific topics, ask questions directly to the Sizewell C team, and collaborate on potential solutions and innovations. A big thank you to the Sizewell C teams for providing critical information and engaging in meaningful discussions with local businesses. Additionally, we express our gratitude to all the businesses who attended. We received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback, which is always brilliant. #SizewellC #CWA #Nuclear #Engineering #CivilWorks #Networking #RoundtableDiscussion #SupplyChain

Topbond is currently undertaking significant improvements in sediment retention by implementing two large tanks, each measuring 14 meters in length and 3 meters in diameter. These tanks, sourced from Europe, are designed to efficiently settle out silt, preventing it from entering the storm water system. This engineering solution aims to significantly reduce sediment buildup within the storm water drainage system, which in turn decreases the risk of blockages and mitigates potential flooding issues. This proactive measure is instrumental in safeguarding the environment, ensuring cleaner rivers and streams by preventing pipe blockages and reducing sediment discharge into waterways. Well done to all involved #civilengineering #construction #siltretention #drainage #flooding #sedimentretention

Our client instructed us to address the flooding caused by elevated groundwater levels, necessitating three overnight closures. Since the flooding began in February, over 15 million litres of water have been extracted from the junction. As part of the works, we installed a piezometer to serve as a warning system for high groundwater levels. Before fully reopening the road, we conducted a final overnight closure to safely remove the emergency flood water pumps. Well done all #construction #civilengineering #flooding #tanker
