#ThrowBackThursday to when we delivered a single-storey sortation facility for end user DPD.
Throwback Thursday This week's Throwback Thursday focusses on DPD's parcel sorting centre at Eurocentral Motherwell which was completed in June 2018. UMC Architects have taken a lead role in the evolution of the 'satellite hub' template DPD building design which has been rolled out across the UK. This single storey sortation centre also comprises a two-storey main office with first floor mezzanine as well as a single storey welfare pod office. The building achieved a BREEAM status of “Very Good” as well as an EPC A Rating. Capable of processing more than 45,000 parcels a day, the site layout is configured to allow 360degree circulation for delivery vehicles with attention paid to the flow of onsite traffic and the need for segregation between the employee/customer car park and operational areas. The building has loading doors on all 4 sides with ample parking spaces for vans ensuring site density is optimised. UMC architects were appointed by DPD and worked alongside Main Contractor Winvic Construction Ltd. #breeam #Sustainability #architect #industrialarchitecture #construction #logistics #sheds #industrialwarehouses #industrial #DPD

Earlier this month, Senior BIM Manager, Mthulisi Mdluli and BIM Manager, Robert Hemphill attended the Digital Construction Awards where we were shortlisted! 🏆 These awards celebrate pioneering projects, teams, and individuals championing #innovation and #technology in the built environment, whether at the bleeding edge of technology and digitalisation or exploring digital technologies and processes for the first time. 💡 After receiving a Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice for our use of the AI-enabled dust and noise monitor, we were delighted to be a finalist in the Digital Construction Awards, in the Best Application of Technology category, for the same technology. We’re proud to be the first UK contractor to use the innovative technology, which we’ve found to be an incredibly effective measure in minimising the potential impact of noise upon local communities. It was great to attend the event and get inspired by all the innovative projects that were showcased on the night. Congratulations to all the winners! 🌟 Our Technical Services and Sustainability Director, @Arun Thaneja was part of the judging panel this year and enjoyed reviewing all the innovative projects the industry has to offer. 📰 Read more about innovation at Winvic in our sustainability strategy: https://bit.ly/3oy3AGA

Great work Wordsworth Excavations 👏. Thanks for sharing this video showing the progress on the civils and infrastructure works Winvic is delivering at Prologis RFI DIRFT 🚆. The project involves: ➡ the formation of a new plateau involving the re-engineering of 55,000m³ of material within the plot and a further 180,000m³ cut from other areas of the DIRFT development, transported and placed to achieve the required plateau levels. ➡ the reshaping of the existing ditch adjacent to the plot and completion of temporary drainage ditches and attenuation ponds. ➡ construction of three bell mouths to provide access into future plots ensuring the areas are ready and accessible for future development. In June, our CSR and Social Value Assistant, Matthew Vickers, and Digital Engineer, Oliwia Karwatka, had the pleasure of attending the Rugby School STEM Fair. The event featured three dynamic 90-minute sessions for different groups of students. The first two sessions welcomed 170 local Year 5-6 primary school children, while the final session was dedicated to Rugby School students. Throughout the day, students took part in a K'nex challenge, aiming to build the tallest tower with the fewest pieces. The activity tested their engineering, creativity and problem-solving abilities. Students also had the opportunity to design their own apartments. We showcased the wide array of roles and opportunities within the construction industry, highlighting various career pathways. It was great spending the day with so many enthusiastic students! 🌟 #STEM #Construction #ConstructionCareers #Engineering Emma Alderman Heidi Salmons DipM MCIM Emma Rhymes Morgan Hambling
