Worshipful Wednesday Well that was a bit different! This afternoon I was welcomed (a really warm and cuddly welcome) in to the Worshipful Company of Carmen. It was a treat to meet Master David Pugsley and Joy Laister in person and to share the experience with good friend Ash Rimmer FCILT, as well as meeting those Liverymen who came to support us and the new Freemen. The Chairman, Sarah Sturrock, who is Consort to the Master Carman, Club Member David Pugsley, was delighted to invite members to attend the Cart Marking ceremony. Cart Marking showcases a truly unique collection of transport dating from the horse and cart to the latest, cleanest, greenest, and safest in use today. The regulation of carts dates back over 750 years to the early days of the City, with the ceremony of Cart Marking evolving over time. We saw handcarts, horses and carts, horse-drawn carriages, steam engines, military vehicles and motorcycles together with historic, vintage and specialist vehicles including the latest, powered by electricity and hydrogen, on display. The vehicles made their way to Guildhall Yard where they were greeted by the Lord Mayor of the City of London, our Club President Alderman Michael Mainelli others wearing robes and insignia. As each vehicle was presented for marking, a commentator told us about its history and relevance today while they were branded with a red hot branding iron, having paid 5 shillings for the privilege! Afterwards we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Guildhall after which we had group photo with the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress. The Worshipful Company of Carmen warmly congratulate Freeman Karl Hodgkinson FIoD FCILT, Group Development & Innovation Director of Howard Tenens Logistics, whom was presented the prestigious Freedom of the City of London on 19 July 2024. Being granted the Freedom of the City of London is not only a historic recognition dating back to 1237 but is also a reflection of Karl's achievements and contributions made within the logistics industry. The Worshipful Company of Carmen are very proud to have Karl Hodgkinson scheduled to become a Liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Carmen in October.

The team at A S Miles Consulting Limited had a great day on Saturday with friends from Worshipful Company of Carmen at their annual Cart Marking ceremony. Great to meet up with friends from Worshipful Company of Management Consultants, Smith Bowyer Clarke Road Transport Lawyers and so good to see our sponsored vehicle from City Harvest London being Marked in this years ceremony with some help from the Institute of Couriers (IOC), Thank you.

Two of the current Mansion House Scholars had the privilege of being invited to the City of London Guildhall on 20th July to attend the Cartmarking ceremony of the Worshipful Company of Carmen. As a proud Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Earned Recognition operator it was wonderful to register one of our fantastic Transport UK London Bus Wrightbus Electroliners EVs into the very first earned recognition and operator licencing scheme, the Worshipful Company of Carmen cart-marking ceremony. A ceremony dating back many hundreds of years, vehicles would be branded with a hot iron to license its use for hire or reward for the coming year. With Lord Mayor Michael Mainelli’s theme of #connecttoprosper myself and fellow Carmen Alastair Willis thought it was only fitting for us to present a vehicle that embodies this philosophy, the iconic red double decker bus, in this case the British designed and built WrightBus Electroliner EV; connecting millions of people everyday across the city on behalf of Transport for London and enabling the capital, and in turn the UK, to prosper. We also proudly showcased a single deck bus that Transport UK Group have donated to Ukraine, which joined the parade and received a wonderful reception. Quattro is very proud to be at Worshipful Company of Carmen today to have two very special carts ‘marked’ in this wonderful tradition. 1. Our Quattro ‘One Horse Power’ horse drawn carriage expertly driven by Donna - who looks exquisite today - with Quattro MD John Murphy in the passenger seat and Head of Corporate Strategy Bob Browning riding in the back. The carriage is led by Tom, a magnificent Irish cob, who has belonged to Donna and her sister since he was two years old, and is now fourteen. The One Horse Power carriage is Quattro’s much loved and special entry today. 2. The Quattro people transporter. Seats 14 people, travels on road or rail, can be used to transport a team or equipment to remote rail sites.
