French shoe brands should learn from Italy, entrepreneur says Paris-based #footwear entrepreneur philippe zorzetto has said only 1% of the shoes and boots that consumers in France buy now are locally made. He said there had been a time when French #shoe factories, operated by brands including Clergerie, Charles Jourdan and Stéphane Kelian, had led the global #footwearindustry. “Then our country began to dream of a factory-free economy and sold its manufacturing to Asia.” He said he was committed to continue manufacturing in #France the shoe collections of his own-name brand, which he set up in 2008. In addition, he said he believed there can be a wider footwear revival there, especially if French companies set out to emulate their neighbours in Italy, who, he said, had succeeded in preserving their high-end footwear manufacturing sector. He added: “It’s more important than ever for us to preserve our creativity and our savoir-faire. Leather is the antidote to fast fashion A podcast run by Abbey England Ltd., a specialist wholesale supplier of equestrian #leather and other materials, recently featured Simon Yarwood, the chief executive of World Leather’s parent company, World Trades Publishing. Speaking to host, Ishbel Watson, Simon Yarwood said he was hopeful of growth for the #leatherindustry in the near future as brands and consumers come to see how well the material fits into the drive towards a circular economy.He pointed out that, since launching the magazine’s Leather and the Circular Economy section in 2020, World Leather has published almost 150 in-depth features on this topic. “We realised that this was the way the world was moving,” he said, “and that if we didn’t address this subject, we wouldn’t be serving the industry properly. This is one of the key issues the industry faces, but it is also one of the key strengths the industry has.” He said he was in no doubt that there had been an anti-leather feeling among some brands and consumers in recent years, but added that the leather sector was “beginning to turn a corner” on this. He claimed that a number of organisations that were “in the process of engineering leather out of their products” were now talking about using leather again in the future. Advances in leather chemistry and an increasing spirit of co-operation among leather manufacturers and suppliers were all reasons for optimism about the future success of the industry, Mr Yarwood said. He said the #leather sector deserves to see growth in the years ahead for all of these reasons and, in particular because of its circular-economy credentials. “Leather is a perfect fit for this,” he concluded. “It’s the total opposite of fast fashion. It’s the total opposite of plastic in the ocean. It is the total opposite of petrochemical-based materials. Seal of approval for OrthoLite products The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) has given its formal approval for a series of insole products from OrthoLite. On July 9, the Massachusetts-based insole materials developer said its X40, Ultra and 0.11 Originals products had received APMA’s seal of acceptance. Puma launches premium leather Mostro Puma has brought back its iconic Mostro #sneaker with two new leather colourways. The Mostro Perf features perforated #leather, a black leather tongue, and sole units with exaggerated spikes. These editions were previewed at Puma’s Paris Fashion Week show and mark the brand’s first use of 3D printing technology for the Mostro. Originally launched in 1999, the #Mostro combines elements of sprinting spikes and surfing shoes with Velcro straps for a futuristic look. Puma aims to recapture the sneaker's early 2000s popularity and has plans for a broader relaunch in 2024 to celebrate the silhouette's 25th anniversary. https://lnkd.in/dA8MpFXi #footwear #retro
