A trade union has claimed members involved in an offshore dispute are being prevented by their employer from "speaking freely" about strike action.

About 50 IES Callenberg staff - who provide heating and ventilation services on offshore platforms - are walking out for three days.

The strike is over pay rates and working rotas with Unite calling for a greater "work-life balance" for staff.

IES Callenburg has been asked for a comment.

Vic Fraser from Unite told BBC Scotland news workers require permission from the employer to discuss the strike with operators.

He added: "IES have made it clear that unless the staff get prior authority they cannot discuss that.

"The employer is only going to allow them to give their side of the story."

Ten offshore chemists employed by SGS UK are also involved in the strike action for a week.

Further industrial action is planned next month.

The two companies have been approached for comment.
