Corporation tax's impact to be debated at Captive Conference

Captive insurance company owners will get an insight into the impact of the Bermuda Corporate Income Tax at the Bermuda Captive Conference.

The conference, which takes place on September 9 and 10 in Hamilton, is themed as Navigating Captive Horizons, highlights the dynamic and resilient nature of Bermuda’s captive Sector.

It will feature a panel moderated by Jennifer Masters, Senior Vice President-Bermuda Captive Leader, Brown & Brown, which will focus on the CIT. Other panelists include Crystal Pittendrigh, Tax Director at PwC Bermuda, Sarah Robey, Tax Partner at KPMG in Bermuda, Michael Regan, Tax Consultant to the Government of Bermuda’s Ministry of Finance and Donay Viljoen, Tax Leader at Forvis Mazars in Bermuda.

Other panels will explore regulatory updates, enhancements to Bermuda’s segregated account companies, investment strategies for captives, medical stop loss and employee benefits, mutuals and more.

The event is also bringing back its ‘Bermuda Shorts’ series, featuring parametric experts, Rob Walling, Principal, Pinnacle Actuarial Resources, Raveem Ismail, Head of Parametric Underwriting, Africa Specialty Risks (ASR) and Tom Johansmeyer, Global Head of Index Classes at Price Forbes Re, who will focus on the use of parametric triggers in captive strategies and how parametrics can help hedge geopolitical volatility, fill coverage gaps left by exclusions and limited capacity.

The event’s final session will include macroeconomic experts James Downey, Corporate Investments at Barclays International, Peter Princi, Managing Director and Institutional Consulting Director at Graystone Consulting (Morgan Stanley), and John Stoltzfus, Chief Strategist at Oppenheimer, as they examine the global economic outlook and its impact on captive strategies.

Tom McMahon, executive vice-president – Davies Captive Management and Chair of the Bermuda Captive Conference, said: "We are thrilled to welcome attendees to the 20th Annual Bermuda Captive Conference. This year's event promises to be our most engaging and insightful yet, offering unparalleled networking and thought leadership opportunities.

"Our theme, 'Navigating Captive Horizons,' reflects the dynamic and resilient nature of Bermuda's captive sector. We look forward to fostering collaboration and equipping our attendees with the tools and insights needed to navigate the complexities of the captive landscape.

“In exciting news for our attendees, the Bermuda Captive Conference will return to its traditional June schedule in 2025, hosted at the prestigious Hamilton Princess. This change is eagerly anticipated by both local and overseas captive owners, as well as industry professionals, who have long valued the timing and venue for fostering deeper connections and taking advantage of Bermuda’s close-knit business community. The June timing aligns much better with the industry's annual planning cycles, making it an ideal opportunity for attendees to gain insights and network at a crucial time in the business calendar."

A number of captive owners will also be featured on this year’s agenda, including the University of Pennsylvania, Sensible Weather and Morgan Stanley International Insurance, as well as a number of others that will be announced in the coming weeks.

This year’s event will take place at the newly renovated PIER 6 in Front Street.
