  • Tailwind uses your notes and documents to create personalised study guides, quizzes and summaries.
  • It is currently in the early access stage, but you can sign up for the waitlist on Google Labs.
During the recent I/O 2023 event, Google introduced a project called "Project Tailwind," which the technology giant described as an "AI-first notebook." The company has now announced that early access to this project will be available soon, along with a new name for the service.

Project Tailwind serves as a demonstration of the PaLM API, which is designed to assist individuals in synthesising information from various sources of their choosing. For instance, students can incorporate their class notes, assignments, essays, and readings from Google Drive into Tailwind, thereby creating a personalised and private AI model with expertise in the provided information.

Using a user-friendly interface, Tailwind allows users to perform various tasks with the data, such as generating study guides, summarising content or even creating quizzes. The primary objective is to facilitate accelerated learning. Moreover, Google envisions Tailwind as a valuable tool for writers conducting research, analysts reviewing earnings calls or lawyers preparing for cases.

Since the beginning of May, interested users have had the option to join the waitlist for Project Tailwind through Google Labs. An update on the project's landing page indicates that the team will soon grant early access to those on the waitlist, with email notifications likely to be sent out to notify users of this development.
How can this be useful?
Google's preview and description of Project Tailwind indicate that it aims to provide individuals with access to a personalised and private AI system while ensuring that their data remains confined within their own account.

Although the experiment primarily targets students, its potential benefits extend to individuals in various professions that involve synthesising information from diverse sources. For instance, you can provide the model with a collection of study notes and select specific details such as key topics and suggested questions to incorporate into your study guide. Subsequently, you can interact with the AI by asking any questions you desire, with the assurance that the answers will be derived exclusively from the documents you have provided. This functionality enables users to obtain valuable insights and information tailored to their needs, regardless of their field of work.
