Sonic Lamb review – immersive sound and a comfortable design

In the ever-evolving digital world, headphones have become an integral part of our daily lives, providing a personal and immersive listening experience.

When you look for a new pair of headphones, your mind usually goes towards well-established brands, that have been in the market for years. Rapture Innovation Labs, a Karnataka-based startup has launched Sonic Lamb, a premium headphone that is aimed at audiophiles.

I have been testing the Sonic Lamb headphones for a few weeks now and here is my detailed review of the headphones.
Sonic Lamb price and availability
The Sonic Lamb headphones are priced at ₹16,999 and are available from the company’s website in three colour options – Obsidian Black, Ember Gray and Moonstone White.

I tested the Obsidian Black colour option, which is all-black. If you want something more colourful, you can go with the Ember Gray variant, which comes in a dual-tone design.

Design and comfort
Starting with the design, the Sonic Lamb offers a comfortable experience. The headphones come with a flexible headband with ample cushioning at the top. The vegan leather used for cushioning is of good quality and you do not have to worry about any irritation.


The earcups can swivel, making it easier to store them, whether in the case provided or in your bag while travelling.


The earcups are called Wooferpads by the company. They come with ample cushioning and are comfortable to use. The earcups are user-replaceable and you do not have to worry about spending a lot of money to change them.


The right earcup has a rotating switch to toggle between the four bass levels offered.


It also comes with a USB Type-C port for charging, an audio port to connect the detachable boom microphone and buttons to control calls and music playback.


The headband is made out of metal and is of good quality. The headphone has some subtle branding, with the Sonic Lamb name printed on both sides. The headphones offer passive noise isolation and miss out on active noise cancellation.
Features and performance
The Sonic Lamb headphone is equipped with 27mm impulse drivers that handle frequencies between 20 to 120Hz and 40mm dynamic drivers that handle frequencies above 120Hz. The headphones feature hybrid driver acoustics, offering air conduction and bone conduction.

While the 27mm impulse drivers handle bone conduction, the 40mm dynamic drivers use air conduction. This basically allows you to not just listen to the music but also feel it.

The Wooferpads convert the bone conduction impulses generated by the 27mm impulse drivers to something that can be felt through the earcups. It acts as a subwoofer and generates a physical sensation that can be felt using conduction technology.

It offers four modes –

• Hear
• Feel
• Immerse
• Beast

The Hear mode is the first level which offers a balanced sound signature and it is meant for listening to soft music, calls, meetings, podcasts and more. This mode focuses more on the vocals and has a balanced sound signature.

The second mode, Feel adds an extra thump to the bass as it amps up the lower frequency for songs that offer bass.

Moving on to the third mode, Immerse adds a more powerful bass, with the sub-woofer kicking in. This mode has been designed for bass-heavy genres like RAP, EDM, hip hop and more.

The most powerful mode is the Beast mode. As the name suggests, this is the top mode and goes all-in on bass and has vibrations coming from the Wooferpads. This has been designed for action movies, especially those with gunshots and destruction. I also found this mode useful while gaming.

Coming to the battery life, it is equipped with a 1,400mAh battery that can be recharged using a USB Type-C cable. A full charge takes around two hours and 10 minutes of charging offers up to six hours of music playback.

A full charge offers up to 42 hours of usage in the Hear mode and up to 12 hours of usage in the Beast mode.
Verdict
The Sonic Lamb is a great headphone, especially considering that this is the first device from the company. It offers a good build quality, comfort and an excellent audio experience. While a good app is needed for the headphones, you can control it using the buttons provided. The sound customisation offered is something that a lot of premium headphones fail to properly implement but Sonic Lamb does it well. At the end of the day, it is a premium offering aimed at audiophiles looking for a good headphone and are willing to pay a premium for it.
