WhatsApp introduces Screen Sharing feature: Know how it works

  • WhatsApp now lets you share your screen during video calls.
  • To start screen sharing, tap the new icon next to the camera switch.
  • WhatsApp will have access to all information on your screen while sharing.
WhatsApp is actively engaged in introducing new functionalities and is working diligently behind the scenes to make this possible. The beta version of WhatsApp – which grants select individuals access to unreleased features within the messaging app – is highly sought-after by users. Throughout this year, WhatsApp has rolled out a range of features catering to privacy, entertainment, and more.

The most recent addition to WhatsApp's beta program is the screen-sharing feature, allowing users to share their phone screens with the person they are on a call with. Notably, the screen- sharing feature is applicable during video calls on WhatsApp. So, how does this feature work, and what benefits does it provide to WhatsApp users? Let's delve into the details.
What it offers
WhatsApp's screen share-feature resembles the functionality found on platforms such as Google Meet and Zoom. It enables users to share their screen during meetings, allowing the other person to view presentations, videos or photos. By offering this screen-share capability, WhatsApp aims to position itself as a compelling alternative to apps like Google Meet and Zoom.
How it works
  • Open WhatsApp and navigate to the bottom tab.
  • Look for the new icon located next to the camera switch option.
  • Tap on the icon to activate the screen-share feature.
  • A pop-up box will appear, warning you about your phone being cast.
  • Click on "Start Now" to begin sharing your screen with the other person.
  • You will receive a message saying "You're sharing your screen," indicating that the screen share has successfully started.
WhatsApp provides you with complete control over the screen-share feature, allowing you to stop the recording at any time according to your preference. Before commencing the screen share, WhatsApp will seek your permission, ensuring your consent is obtained. It's important to note that during the screen share, WhatsApp will have access to all the information displayed on your screen. This includes passwords, photos, messages and even payment details, as the messaging app needs access to such information while the screen-share feature is active.
