According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), 25.6 million wearables were shipped in Q1 2024. Wearables include smartwatches and earwear such as truly wireless earbuds (TWS) and neckbands. While a small growth has been recorded in the first quarter, the growth was hindered by high inventory carried over from the festive season in 2023. The share of offline channels in shipments increased to 37.9% in Q1 2024 from 26.1% in Q1 2023. According to the report, the smartwatch shipments declined by 7.3% to 9.6 million devices, recording the first decline in shipments since Q4 2018. The decline has been attributed to excess inventory in the online channel and fewer new launches. The ASP of smartwatches declined to $20.65 (approx. ₹1,720) from $29.24 (approx. ₹2,435). India’s wearable shipments rise by 2.1% in Q1 2024, average price declines

Homegrown brands dominate the truly wireless earbud segment as shipments double in India

The smart ring category is generating a lot of interest from consumers, particularly due to the interesting form factor and several launches in the past few months. India's wearable market grows 29.2% in Q3, smart ring category shows promise

The company reported a staggering 236% year-on-year growth in Q2 2022. Speaking about the dominance of the Indian companies in the TWS segment, Liz Lee, the associate research director at Counterpoint, said, “These brands together took over 70% share and were quite aggressive in their marketing strategies, introducing new advanced alternatives at affordable prices along with discount schemes through various sales events. Domestic production has received a boost as companies are looking to expand production in the country as part of the “Make in India” scheme. “Made in India has been taking the spotlight since this year. But more brands started focusing on local manufacturing this quarter,” Jain added. The Indian government has announced several schemes such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which offers incentives based on the production to companies who produce domestically. Affordable smartwatches make India the biggest smartwatch market in the world

The move is said to capture the budding affordable wireless earbuds category as Apple’s cheapest option currently starts at ₹14,900, which is priced fairly higher than the competition from the likes of Samsung, Sony, Oppo and others. While hailed for their audio quality and accessibility thanks to the Apple ecosystem, these products aren’t exactly cheap. This might change soon, since Apple is reportedly working on <keyword id="8772889" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="airpods-lite" source="Orion">AirPods lite</keyword>, a more up to date and affordable TWS buds. Apple introduced the first pair of AirPods back in 2017, and since then we have seen multiple generations of the product. According to analyst Jeff Pu, Apple is working on Airpods Lite to compete with lower priced products to compete with non-Apple products. While the Airpods are very successful, Jeff Pu claims according to his industry sources that the demand for the accessory is set to drop in 2023. More specifically, the shipment of AirPods are expected to drop from 73 million in 2022 to 63 million in 2023. This can be attributed to “soft demand” for the AirPods 3 and Apple may not release new AirPods this year. Given the reason for development and reports we can assume that the AirPods lite might be priced lower than the AirPods Gen 2. Cheaper AirPods could be on the way — Apple reportedly working on a toned down pair of earbuds

<ul><li>Nike is planning to launch a digital collection of its sneakers, clothes and accessories.</li><li>The company has filed trademark applications that suggest it’s working on virtual products.</li><li>Nike is also hiring virtual designers for the company’s digital venture.</li></ul>Nike has reportedly filed trademark applications that hint at the sportswear company venturing into virtual products. According to the trademark applications, Nike plans on selling digital sneakers, clothes and accessories that can be used in online virtual environments. Nike has filed trademark applications for “Nike”, “Just Do It”, “Jordan”, “Air Jordan” as well as its swoosh and the jumpman logo, according to a <a href="https://www.inputmag.com/style/nike-metaverse-air-jordan-sneakers-shoes-clothes-swoosh-just-do-it-trademark-application">report</a> by Input Mag. There’s also one with a combination of Nike and the swoosh together. So a total of seven trademark applications were submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. These trademarks are for its digital products that will be available on Nike’s own digital retail store. The sportswear company will offer online, non-downloadable virtual footwear, clothing, headwear, eyewear, bags, sports bags, backpacks, sports equipment, art, toys, and accessories. The trademark applications could also be a way for Nike to prevent knockoffs of its products in the digital world, Josh Gerben, a trademark attorney at Gerben Intellectual Property <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/nike-files-to-sell-digital-sneakers-as-it-seeks-downloadable-kicks-11635873070">told</a> the Wall Street Journal. Whether or not Nike goes through with offering digital sneakers or clothes is still not confirmed. But the company does have plans of entering the metaverse world with its digital offerings and it’s already hiring virtual material designers who will work towards redefining the company’s digital world and “ushering us into the metaverse.” The fashion industry already runs on limited editions that only a few people can own which is basically the core of NFTs (non-fungible tokens). NFTs would give people even more exclusivity as they’ll own possibly the only digital version of limited edition products. Nike may be jumping on the NFT bandwagon now but this world is already filled with global names like Balenciaga and Gucci. Nike also won’t be the first to offer virtual sneakers as there’s already a brand called “RTFKT” that sells virtual sneakers priced up to $22,094. Nike is planning to sell virtual sneakers as it prepares to ride the metaverse wave

After entering the flagship segment with the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/realme-gt-neo-2-5g-smartphone-review/articleshow/86995272.cms">GT series</a>, Realme is now gearing up to take on the Samsung Galaxy S series and Apple’s flagship iPhones with the launch of a premium smartphone. The company will also compete with its sister company OnePlus. Sky Li, Realme’s founder and chief executive officer (CEO) confirmed on <a href="https://twitter.com/skyli_realme/status/1459112039733891072">Twitter</a> that the company is entering the premium smartphone segment. He further asked fans what they expect from a flagship Realme smartphone. “It's official: Realme to advance into the high-end market with smartphones over USD800. What do you expect most from Realme full flagship phone?” Sky Li said in a tweet. The premium smartphone from Realme will reportedly be priced above $800 (₹59,500 approx.), meaning we can expect a smartphone priced above ₹60,000 from the company in India. The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/news/realme-gt-5g-mobile-phone-review/articleshow/85478447.cms">Realme GT 5G</a> is the company’s current flagship smartphone and is currently priced starting at ₹37,999, going up to ₹41,999 for the top variant. Apart from the fact that the company is entering the premium smartphone segment, not much is known about the device. The device is expected to be packed with the latest technology, including a flagship processor, premium display and a powerful camera. Some of the fans responded by asking Realme to provide better camera performance, longer software support, water resistance, wireless charging, glass back and more. The smartphone will likely be launched in the first half of 2022 and will be powered either by the Snapdragon 898 chipset or the MediaTek Dimensity 2000 chipset. Another upgrade we expect is that Realme might use an E5 AMOLED display which has a peak brightness of up to 1500 nits and saves up to 25% power compared to its predecessor.
