How accessible is this website
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible. For example:
- transcripts are not available for all video content
- Some decorative images have alt text associated with them
- the pins representing job vacancies on the map of the UK aren’t descriptive enough for screen reader users to fully identify their function or purpose
- the ‘View cookies’ link has insufficient colour contrast
- the main navigation menu loses some functionality at over 400% magnification
- the arrows on the card carousel do not always receive keyboard focus

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
These are the known issues currently being addressed:

- Some prerecorded video content does not have alternative time-based media or audio descriptions. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.2.3 (Audio Description or Media Alternative (Pre-recorded)).
- Some headings and labels in the job map do not describe their topic or purpose. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.6 (Headings and Labels).
- The visual presentation of some text does not have a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast Minimum).
- Some content cannot be viewed at 400% magnification without loss of information or functionality, or without requiring scrolling in two dimensions. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.10 (Reflow).
- Some functionality is not operable through a keyboard interface. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.1 (Keyboard functionality).
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 22 September 2020. It was last reviewed on 14 May 2024.
This website was last tested in December 2023. The test was carried out by the Digital Accessibility Centre, with additional later testing by Cabinet Office staff.
The tests were conducted on common site user tasks, including viewing key site pages (e.g. departments, professions, ‘What is the Civil Service’ and ‘Career Matcher’ pages), using buttons, and accessing videos.
