Britney Spears rediscovered her groove after a 9-month break from dancing.
The 42-year-old pop superstar — who finally reconciled with her sons Sean, 18, and Jayden, 17 — took to Instagram on Thursday to post a video of herself dancing and to explain her recent absence from showing off her moves.
'I haven’t danced in so long … the last time I danced I was dancing with knives … people say I shouldn’t post those … I said to myself why even get up and try if I know I’m gonna end up hurt !!!,' the Toxic hitmaker captioned it.
In September, Spears had sparked concern after she shared a clip of herself doing a dizzying dance with kitchen knives.
'It’s been 9 months since I have danced but I did last night … It’s not very good but I did it !!!' she concluded the new clip.
In it, Spears performs to Mi Gente by J Balvin and Willy William while rocking a variety of barely-there ensembles.
The music icon reportedly received a welfare check from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department after posting the knives video back in the fall of 2023.
At the time, Spears insisted that the sharp blades were fake and said her team rented them from the Hand Prop Room.
'I know I spooked everyone with the last post,' she wrote, referring to the concern expressed by her many fans. 'But these are fake knives that my team rented from the Hand Prop shop in LA. These are not real knives.'
Regarding how the authorities visited her home earlier in the day for a welfare check, she asserted that 'no one needs to worry or call the police'.
She ensured her 42.1 million followers that she was 'trying to imitate one of my favorite performers'.
The singer was copying Shakira's knife dance at the MTV Video Music Awards in September — which she said was 'a performance I was inspired by'.
The Toxic hitmaker then added: 'Cheers to us bad girls who aren't afraid to push boundaries and take risks'.
In the video, she ran the knives along her body and twirled while tapping them together to the beat of the music.
The knife-dancing anniversary comes a few days after a family insider told DailyMail.com that Spears has finally reconciled with her sons Sean, 18, and Jayden, 17, following months of secret trips to see them in Hawaii and meet-ups in California.
The pop princess has been extremely vocal in recent years about her strained relationship with Sean and Jayden, who she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline, 46.
Now a well connected family insider has told DailyMail.com exclusively that Britney and her teenage boys are 'fully back on track,' two years after Jayden voiced his hopes for a reconciliation with his mother.
'Britney has been speaking to, and working on, her relationship with Sean Preston and Jayden for months now,' the insider said.
'The boys have so much love for their mother, as she does for them. Things are fully back on track and they are looking forward to the future together.'
According to a second source close to the family, Britney's older brother Bryan Spears, 47, was behind the long-awaited reunion.
'Bryan was instrumental in facilitating their reunion,' they said. 'He cares so much for Britney and about his nephews.
'She wanted to keep this quiet because she didn't want it to jeopardize their chances of reconciliation, but she's actually been back to being their mom again since February.'
While on vacation last week with her brother, Britney shared a picture of Bryan looking all dressed up and, in the caption, revealed that she was in contact with her sons.
'Looking pretty dapper,' she wrote alongside the photo. 'I sent it to my kids and I think that they got jealous because they said "that's a filter...that's not real."'
In August 2023, Kevin, Sean Preston and Jayden moved to Hawaii, along with Kevin's wife of 10 years, Victoria Prince, and their two daughters Jordan, 12, and Payton, nine.
Britney has visited the boys several times at their home in Hawaii this year, which has been one of her go-to vacation spots for several decades.
'She has gone to Hawaii to see them and they have come to her house to spend time with her,' the source continued.
Britney and Kevin got married in October 2004 following a whirlwind romance which saw them welcome Sean Preston in September 2005 and Jayden the following September.
She filed for divorce two months after the birth of their second son, before it was finalized in July 2007.
She then embarked on a very public meltdown, dramatically shaving off her hair and being hospitalized for substance abuse.
By January 2008, Kevin was awarded sole legal and physical custody of their boys, just weeks before Britney was placed under the controversial legal conservatorship.
During that time, which saw her life and finances controlled by her father, Britney had contact with her sons, who she saw regularly.
But in 2022 it was revealed their relationship was strained.
In an exclusive interview for ITV, Kevin broke his silence on raising his sons away from the spotlight, confirming Britney had not seen her sons for nearly six months, with the pair not in attendance at her wedding to Sam in June that year.
'The boys have decided they are not seeing her right now,' Kevin revealed. 'It's been a few months since they've seen her.'
Jayden also spoke out, claiming it wasn't a 'good time to go' to his mother's wedding.
'I’m really happy for them, but she didn’t invite the whole family and then if it was just going to be me and Preston, I just don’t see how that situation would have ended on good terms,' he said.
Kevin also opened up about the impact Britney's often erratic and provocative selfies on social media had had on his two teenage sons.
'They tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but at the same time, I can tell that sometimes, it hurts to be in that position,' he said.
'I try to explain to them, "Look, maybe that's just another way she tries to express herself." But that doesn't take away from the fact of what it does to them. It's tough.
'I can't imagine how it feels to be a teenager having to go to high school.'
Britney hit back at Kevin's comments on Instagram, writing: 'It saddens me to hear that my ex husband has decided to discuss the relationship between me and my children… As we all know, raising teenage boys is never easy for anyone.'
She added: 'It concerns me the reason is based on my Instagram. It was LONG before Instagram.'
Jayden stressed there was 'no hate' between the boys and their mother, but he admitted that ‘it will take a lot of time and effort’ to repair their fractured relationship.
The teenager added: 'I 100 per cent think this can be fixed. It’s just going to take a lot of time and effort.
'I just want her to get better mentally. When she gets better I really want to see her again.'
In September 2023 news broke that Kevin was looking to 'ask for an increase in child support' from his ex-wife.
A source told TMZ that Kevin feels that he 'never bargained on having the kids full-time when they hashed out the terms of support.'
The insider claimed that he is 'thinking of going to court' to request support modifications.
However, a source close to Britney told DailyMail.com at the time: 'That is not accurate. There is no basis for it, and it would be ridiculous. Kevin has been paid exorbitant monies and one would think if he needed more money he would, at last, obtain a job.'
