  • There is still time to make an impact! Your gift of $25 can make a difference! Take advantage of our donor match, active until Dec 31st. We are pushing to get as many Art + Agility kits into the hands of children who could use a little cheer. As always, thank you for supporting our mission to promote active bodies, active minds and healthy relationships! 💙

  • This month Active Discovery visited The Boys and Girls Clubs in San Clemente to ask kids what they liked about our kits and what they’s like to see in future kits. Thumbs up for games, ball, activity books, jump ropes, and art tools, according to the kids. We got some great feedback about if they like activities that they already know how to do verses new experiences that they have to learn how to do. We’ll be excited to launch our new kits soon, one of which will be Art & Agility featuring a segment on graffiti art! Find out more about Active Discovery’s kits and programs at activediscovery.org”. • What a privilege to watch Active Discovery grow! With generous donors, a team who passionately supports our mission and a powerhouse of leaders, we are grateful for what we accomplished in 2023! Recently, we went to Grand Rapids, MI to connect with Boys & Girls Clubs of America in GR and share the latest kits with their kids. Bounces + Beats was a hit! Let’s keep it going! • Active Discovery is about active bodies, active minds, and healthy relationships. Enjoy the trailer of our newest Hometown Hero, Head women's basketball coach of The University of Denver, Doshia Woods. https://lnkd.in/gs5RFHdt The Hometown Hero videos tell real stories about real people who have overcome adversity to do great things! Meeting Doshia Woods was a highlight of my year, and I am so excited to share her story with the thousands of children we serve. Doshia is our first female hero, and she truly is an inspiration! The adversity she faced is so relatable to the kids that we serve, and her story will inspire us all to keep going. The facilitator and student worksheets we create help the children learn to glimpse in the rear view mirror long enough to learn the lessons through our heroes who have lived the lessons. We then celebrate the windshield view filled with success, hope, and a wide impact for good! We offer Active Discovery Kits, Hometown Hero videos, and Imagining Possibilities field trips to vulnerable children and the fantastic organizations that are with these children every day. If you know of an organization that would like to become a Hometown Hero Video sponsor, or have someone to nominate for our next Hometown Hero, please contact Mary Ann at Maryann@activediscovery.org

Renowned former Principia volleyball coach and associate athletics director, Mary Ann Sprague-Denison (C'84), has a new endeavor—leveling the playing field of sports and making activity accessible to children. “I want to make it easy for kids to get active, to have fun, and be fit,” she says. After moving to California, Sprague-Denison founded Active Discovery Nonprofit, a non-profit that creates activity toolkits and curriculum resources to support the integration of learning and movement and to serve as relationship builders between kids and mentors, staff, and parents. Each Active Discovery kit aims to inspire active minds and bodies and includes learning materials related to athletics, music, cooking, art, and more. Active Discovery partners with Title 1 schools, YMCAs, housing authorities, and others, supporting organizations that are already working to help financially-vulnerable children. Sprague-Denison hopes that these games, activities, and events will help kids find community, discover a new passion, and get moving!
