Starting his health career journey at 16, Jared Bogard knew at an early age that he could impact others, and that he did. Coworkers at the AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Emergency Department shared that Bogard was an essential part optimizing and streamlining processes in the emergency department. In addition to his workflow management and assistance in the department, Bogard chooses an empathetic and personal approach to his patience. Bogard shared, “I love what I do. I am inspired by the exponential nature of our impact as individual nurses. A nurse could take care of 12 patients per day, 3 days a week, for a year… That is close to 1,900 patients a year – and if you double or even triple that with those patients’ family and friends, I could impact a million people over the course of my career. It is truly inspiring.” Bogard’s positive and inspirational outlook on life is what his coworkers admire about him. His effort and dedication do not go unnoticed. This led him to be recognized as a 2023 AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Outstanding Team Member.

By the year 2027, an estimated 900,000 nurses are expected to leave or retire from the field in the United States alone. We are making positive strides toward combatting the current and future workforce shortage through partnerships with incredible nursing programs. We are proud to announce our partnership with MidAmerica Nazarene University that will continue to provide nursing students with hands-on training in our Shawnee Mission hospital while expanding the program to a new site at AdventHealth South Overland Park. Through this partnership, nursing students at MNU will be able to utilize real hospital facilities and interact with experienced AdventHealth team members, providing them with real world experience and expertise and offering pathways to job placement shortly after graduation. Congratulations to Ann Daniels, a labor & delivery nurse at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, on her DAISY Award! Ann was nominated for the award by a couple she cared for on their brightest and darkest days. After helping an expecting mother deliver a stillborn baby last year, Ann provided exceptional care to the family, regularly checking in on them, providing hugs and words of encouragement. "She was more like a guardian angel than a nurse...beyond calm and comforting, so kind, patient, and understanding," said the couple. Fast forward to May 2024, the couple was expecting again and desperately hoped to have Ann as their nurse once again. Shortly after being admitted to their delivery room, in walked Ann and they immediately recognized each other from the year before. After a few tears and encouraging words, Ann helped deliver the family's healthy newborn son. The family nominated Ann because of her excellent care and her generous, caring spirit. "We want her to be recognized for just how amazing she is and the profound and life altering impact she's had on us."
