Highlighting our Centennial Campaign provider El Centro Aquatic Center's focus on promoting water safety education through its Junior Lifeguarding program ⭐ In this 8-week program, youth from all over El Centro attended and were paired with Junior Lifeguarding Instructor, Camila Munguia. Camila provided various forms of instruction for maximum levels of engagement from the Junior Guards. Through one-on-one and group exercises the Junior Guards got an in-depth look at what it truly is like to be lifeguards certified by the American Red Cross. A notable feature of this program was for Junior Guards to be able to meet and work alongside the El Centro Lifeguards, receiving insight and advice from those who work the front line of the Aquatic Center. “The Junior Lifeguards who completed this course left with a new outlook on the profession of Lifeguarding, creating a safer and more informed public of the future,” notes Angel Rosa, Aquatics Coordinator of the City of El Centro. We are proud to have you a part of the Centennial Campaign! ❤️

“I truly feel like I can see the change in my community, and that’s what I aim to do, change my community one day or life at a time.” Meet Jess Whitacre Micourt, a Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED, BLS, and Lifeguarding Instructor as well as a First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Trainer. Teaching for her is more than a career, it’s a passion. Jess has empowered hundreds of individuals to be prepared in the moments that matter by using a sense of humor and a keen ability to connect with others. Jess wanted to make a difference in her new position as JEA Health & Wellness Director and discovered that she loved to teach others. She got her staff excited about CPR by making the class interactive and incorporating humor—one silly tactic including naming all her manikins Jerry. Jess had one student who saved her child a few days after taking her class, who later admitted she almost didn’t attend. The student’s child was in the backseat when he suddenly started choking. Due to her training, she was able to recognize the symptoms, pull over to the side of the road and quickly respond, saving his life. Jess’s passion for teaching pushed her to eventually open her own business, Limitless Training, where she currently focuses on nonprofits and rural areas that don’t have easy access to lifesaving training. She eliminates accessibility and affordability barriers to make communities safer, and she’s looking to grow her clientele in the future. Thank you for making a difference, Jess! ❤️
