At Armstrong International, we celebrate every win. This month, we recognize the 125th industrial high-temperature heat pump produced in partnership with Combitherm GmbH. Fun fact, this is also the first unit made in our Belgian factory, which opened in 1969. Read more in Rossen Ivanov's post below.
Armstrong International - MD EMEA | Circular Thermal℠: how to put waste heat back into industrial systems and beyond | High-Temperature Heat Pumps
As we approach the 𝟭𝟮𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 (founded in 1900), we decided to celebrate the #125 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝗺𝗽 produced by our partnership with Combitherm GmbH. Symbolically, it is also 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 - an important step in our plan to expand globally the manufacturing of this technology. Combitherm GmbH has launched industrial heat pumps just after the company founding in 1972. The technology is certainly not new - some of these units have been running at customers’ sites for more than 40 years. As the demand for higher temperatures appeared, Combitherm GmbH has launched a 80°C / 175°F version in 2005, 90°C / 195°F version in 2015 and 120°C / 250°F version in 2020. The collaboration with Armstrong International – Intelligent Solutions in Steam, Air and Hot Water started in 2017 through a licence agreement for Asia, that resulted into the manufacturing of the technology in our plant near Chennai (India) - the 3rd expansion of which has just began to accommodate growing demand. We are also starting to manufacture industrial heat pumps in our plant near Beijing (China). Armstrong also entered into licence agreements with Combitherm for the Americas region, resulting into manufacturing of heat pumps in our plant in Guadalajara (Mexico) since 2023 - and a new expansion of our legacy plant in Michigan, USA (with the support of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)). The new manufacturing of heat pumps in our Belgian plant (opened in 1969) allows us to expand the European capacity - beyond the factory of Combitherm GmbH near Stuttgart (Germany). As an illustration of the energy transition, the same team that has been producing hot water skids using steam from natural gas boilers will manufacture in the future industrial high-temperature heat pumps. 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲, 𝗔𝗿𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴’𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟭𝟮𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀! The goal of the Armstrong’s investment program is to follow the demand of both our global and local clients, as they tackle the “efficient electrification” - and resulting decarbonization - of their industrial heat < 200°C / 400°F. While the core technology from Combitherm GmbH remains the same, it is also adapted to the local market needs and standards. The deployment of heat pumps manufacturing goes hand-in-hand with the scale-up of or ability to perform globally Pinch studies (https://lnkd.in/eFC2QkW7). Heat pumps and Pinch are the 2 pillars of our Circular Thermal℠ design concept: https://lnkd.in/ecpDD5Ue

Armstrong International recently broke ground on a 29,000-square-foot industrial heat pump manufacturing wing, supported through a grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Heat Pump Defense Production Act Program. This grant will bolster Armstrong's manufacturing capabilities in North America to include industrial heat pumps designed for applications exceeding 100kW of heat and temperatures above 180 degrees, which is an important step in conserving waste heat. In this video, hear from Armstrong International's President of the Americas Patricia Provot, CEO Kurt Armstrong and the DOE's Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Energy Efficiency Jeff Marootian. https://bit.ly/4eDFkZh

In his recent article published in FoodProcessing magazine, Armstrong President of Asia/Oceania Mahijeet Mishra shares his insights on decarbonization in the F&B industry. He highlights how the sudden shift towards renewable energy sources could put us at risk of creating another "cobra effect." Meaning, we could be generating a new set of problems in an effort to resolve current problems. Check out the full article for a complete breakdown on this primary issue facing F&Bs and what he suggests as a solution: https://bit.ly/3RGwrEd #FandB #Decarbonization #FoodManufacturing #WasteHeat
