Exciting news! Ascend Elements has joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). 🌍 We are pleased to announce we have committed to setting science-based, near-term and #netzero emissions reductions, aligning with the latest climate science and the #ParisAgreement goals. By committing to these targets, Ascend Elements proudly joins the United Nations’ Race to Zero campaign, reinforcing our role in the global effort to combat the climate crisis. CEO Mike O'Kronley says, "We’re working to make EV battery materials more #sustainable, which helps EV OEMs accelerate their net zero goals. At the same time, we’re taking aggressive steps to achieve net zero in our own operations. Part of that involves setting science-based net zero targets that exceed the minimum requirements." 🔍Why are we committed to setting a science-based target? To address the current climate crisis, we need to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and reduction targets must be aligned with the latest climate science. The SBTi aligns with the Paris Agreement goals to limit global temperature rise to below 2°C. 💡Why is climate action crucial for us? We provide engineered #EV #battery materials to power the #cleanenergy transition, producing end-products with lower carbon emissions. This will help #electricvehicle OEMs meet their #climate targets and accelerate the global transition to net zero. Check out the #construction progress at our Apex 1 #EV #battery #cathode precursor (pCAM) manufacturing facility in Hopkinsville, Kentucky! The 150-acre site is taking shape and on track for commercial production startup by Q2 2025. In less than a year, we’ll be making #decarbonized #pCAM at an unprecedented scale in the United States! The #sustainable, engineered battery materials produced in Hopkinsville will power up to 750,000 #electricvehicle battery packs per year. Dozens of Ascend Elements team members…and hundreds of construction workers and engineers have been working on the project for 18 months. Thanks to Turner Construction Company, Kokosing Construction Co., Inc., and many other contractors and suppliers. It's worth repeating that this project is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the DOE Manufacturing & Energy Supply Chains Office (MESC) with funds from the #Bipartisan #Infrastructure Law (#BIL). Thank you! Want to join us? We’re hiring in #Kentucky! 👇 https://lnkd.in/eiHggnaq

Want to know a secret? A lot of recycled #battery materials don’t ever make it back to the lithium-ion battery supply chain. ♻ 🔋 #Recycling processes that generate #blackmass and #metal salts often send these raw materials overseas, where they may or may not return to the global #EV battery supply chain. Too often, black mass is diverted from the battery #supplychain to make other products, like stainless #steel. Not particularly helpful to North America’s EV transition. Far from a closed loop, today’s EV battery ecosystem is leaking. Recycling alone does not equal #circularity. In this special presentation, CEO Mike O'Kronley talks about barriers to EV battery circularity and how Ascend Elements is working to return every kilogram of #recycled battery materials back to the domestic EV battery supply chain. Watch the full video and learn how Ascend Elements’ Hydro-to-Cathode® technology is closing the loop by making #decarbonized EV battery #cathode material in the United States. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eAVjy5a5
