Avara Pharmaceuticals is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Gerard R. Scarlato as VP of Business Development. In his new role the Business Development and Marketing function at Avara will report into Gerard. Dr. Gerard R. Scarlato PhD, is a global/domestic, sales and business development executive experienced in both the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. He possesses a solid chemical and biological scientific education along with a successful 25+ year sales and business development track record at most recently CDMOs Serán BioSciences LLC, Raybow, Seqens, Lonza, Capsugel, Aesica, Cambrex and Evotec having a global presence in the areas of both small and/or large molecules and possessing both drug substance and drug product capabilities. He is experienced initiating and developing strategic partnerships through the marketing of new technologies and the identification of licensing opportunities. In addition, he has had an earlier successful 10+ year R&D industrial track record in science involved in the areas of diabetes and inflammation resulting in a number of patents and publications. His scientific training is supported by higher level education institutions as a Postdoctoral Scientist at The Scripps Research Institute, a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at the Univ. of California-Los Angeles and a B.S. in Biochemistry at the Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Scarlato has 35+ years of pharmaceutical Drug Substance and Drug Product research and business development leadership. Before joining the Avara team, Gerard was Head of Business Development at Serán Biosciences, Seqens and Raybow small molecule divisions and served as Head of North America Sales at the Lonza Capsule Delivery Solutions division. He has a B.S. in Biochemistry from UW-Madison, a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from UCLA and held a post-doctoral position at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA.#newhire #welcome
