The #Inspiration4 Nature Package has dropped. 🚀 Research across more than 100 organizations, 40 publications rolled into one incredible issue, data from around the globe, ALL brought together because of ONE commercial space mission. Anyone who is doubtful about the true depth and impact of commercial human space flight needs to tune in to this! These discoveries are possible at this scale entirely because of the commercial space program! AND this is only the beginning. #PolarisDawn is on deck. 🌟 BioAstra Update 🌟 It is with pleasure and enthusiasm that I formally introduce and welcome the newest members of the 2024 BioAstra Advisory Committee. Joining us from around the world are brilliant minds and leaders in aerospace science and technology. Their contributions to BioAstra include research mentorship of fellows, scientific support, space operations and technology implementation. Join me in celebrating these incredible additions to the BioAstra family! Montana Bilger | Montana Bilger is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Deep Space Biology, where he is currently leading a team dedicated to revolutionizing healthcare discoveries through AI, space biology, and multi-omics. This role allows him to combine his passion for technology with his commitment to accelerating health discoveries. Numerous accolades have marked his journey, however, what truly drives him is the opportunity to contribute to a future where technology allows us to improve the lives of millions worldwide. Afshin Beheshti | Dr. Beheshti currently holds a position of Affiliate Research Scientist at the Blue Marble Space Institute of Science (BMSIS). Additionally, he serves as a visiting researcher at the Broad Institute and is the President of two nonprofits which are the COVID-19 International Research Team (www.cov-irt.org) and Kwaai (www.kwaai.ai). Dr. Beheshti's contributions have earned him recognition and accolades, including the International Space Station Research & Development Award for Compelling Results in Biology from the American Astronaut Society/NASA, the NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal, One KBR Award, and the NASA Outstanding Service Award: NASA Ames Safety Award Program II. Daniela Bezdan | Dr. Bezdan holds the position of Chief Scientific Officer at Yuri, a pioneering company in the field of commercial spaceflight, focusing on research and development for microgravity experiments on the International Space Station (ISS). In her role, Dr. Bezdan is at the forefront of developing innovative products for the ISS, exploiting the unique conditions of microgravity to foster advancements in healthcare. As a serial entrepreneur, she has also co-founded several ventures, including Poppy Health, specializing in pathogen surveillance, and Analog LLC, dedicated to astronaut training.

Introducing Eliah Overbey, Assistant Professor of Bioastronautics. Dr. Overbey comes to UATX from her position as a research associate at Weill Cornell Medicine. She studies changes in astronaut health during spaceflight with an emphasis on genomic measurements. Her most recent project analyzed genomic changes in astronauts from the SpaceX Inspiration4 mission, and she is currently working on data analysis and sample collection for the Axiom-2 and Polaris Dawn missions. Her work launched the Space Omics and Medical Atlas (SOMA), an online portal with the largest compendium of molecular measurements from astronauts. She also serves as Vice Chair of the Cornell Aerospace Medicine Biobank (CAMbank), the first biorepository of samples from commercial astronauts, and as Chief Scientific Officer at BioAstra, a nonprofit developing healthcare systems for astronauts. Dr. Overbey received a B.S. in Computer Science from UC San Diego and her Ph.D. in Genome Sciences from the University of Washington. https://lnkd.in/e5MxGEPs

🚀✨ Celebrating the Success of BioAstra Crew-1: Space Miners Class! ✨🚀 Last summer, we embarked on an ambitious journey with the inaugural BioAstra Crew missions - a fellowship designed to push the boundaries of space health and bioinformatics. Our Crew-1 Mission, comprising eight incredibly talented researchers, delved deep into the pharmacogenomics of spaceflight, marking a significant leap towards personalized medicine in space. Their dedication and hard work culminated in the "BioAstra Crew-1: Space Miners Class" mission, which has not only advanced our understanding of astronaut health but also laid the groundwork for the BioAstra Frontiers Research Program.
