BPS Division of Coaching Psychology (Main)

Non-profit Organizations

Promoting excellence in coaching psychology research and practice.

About us

Our vision is to be recognised as a leading authority on coaching psychology and to be central to the development of the profession. We aim to promote the development of coaching psychology as a professional activity and to clarify the benefits of psychological approaches within coaching practice. We are pleased to welcome the re-designation of the Special Group in Coaching Psychology (SGCP) to a new Division of Coaching Psychology after society members voted overwhelming in favour of the resolution at the BPS AGM 2021. The Division of Coaching Psychology attracts both coaching psychologists and non-psychologist coaches who are interested in the appropriate application of psychological theory and methods to coaching practice. The Division of Coaching Psychology is committed to demystifying the use of psychology within coaching and aims to provide evidence for the use of coaching psychology in practice to assist organisations, non-psychologist coaches, as well as individual purchasers of coaching services to both source and use coaching psychology services more effectively. With the increasing popularity of psychologically grounded techniques for business and personal improvement, professional standards and ethics for all providers of coaching services and especially those with a psychological focus are becoming more important.
