DYK: The Lewis and Clark Monument is located within Lewis and Clark Monument Park at 19962 Monument Road. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark gathered atop this bluff more than 200 years ago as they set out to explore the newly purchased Louisiana Territory. Lewis and Clark held noteworthy meetings with Otoe and Missouri Indians here, at the “council-bluff.” This site was dedicated in 1936 to honor the 1804 expedition of Lewis and Clark and their historic meetings with Otoe and Missouria tribesmen. This area was renovated in 2002. #unleashcb #councilbluffs

DYK: The Kinsman Monument, a Civil War Memorial dedicated in 1902, honors Colonel William Kinsman and the 23rd Iowa Volunteer Infantry. Four Civil War cannons surround it. Colonel Kinsman, a Council Bluffs resident and former 4th Iowa lieutenant under General Dodge, was mortally wounded leading a charge at Big Black River Bridge and buried on the battlefield with 18 others from his regiment. General Dodge and veterans of the 4th and 23rd Iowa Infantry later brought Kinsman’s remains back to Council Bluffs for burial. #unleashcb #councilbluffs
