#PostOfTheWeek In the second of our three-part blog series highlighting DAI’s support for developing carbon markets, Christy Owen talks to Abraham Guillen, Chief of Party, and Nga Dang, PFES Specialist for USAID’s Sustainable Forest Management project in Vietnam about their work supporting the Government of Vietnam to put in place the framework to allow the forestry sector to participate in a carbon compliance market. This presents two challenges. The first is protecting Vietnam’s forests, which remain under threat. The second is providing a financial incentive for communities and the government to keep trees in the ground. This involves the government receiving revenue through a trade tax system applied to forest owners selling carbon credits. #Ankara, like many bustling capitals, faces challenges such as traffic congestion, pollution, and limited public transport options. Effective mobility planning aims to address these issues by improving public transport, reducing traffic, and lowering pollution, creating a healthier, more efficient city. Funded by the European Union, the SMART Ankara project in Türkiye supports the preparation of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) in line with EU standards and the development of a smart bike system for the capital. The project is working to shift from individual transportation to sustainable, accessible, and extensive modes of public transport. To raise awareness about the benefits of using bicycles in shared public spaces, Smart Ankara organized a hackathon where our experts engaged with university students to explore their visions for promoting bicycle use in the busy capital and sought innovative solutions for a greener, safer, healthier, traffic-free, and noise-free city. #EU I #Türkiye European Union Delegation to Türkiye I Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Republic of Turkey I Ulaştırma Sektörel Operasyonel Programı I Ankara Büyükşehir Belediyesi I EGO Genel Müdürlüğü I TED University I Dr Kristina Gaučė I Emine Gyulestan I Teksin Öztekin I Rade Glomazic, Ph.D. #SmartAnkara #SUMP #SustainableMobility #GreenCity #PublicTransport
SMART Ankara Projesi “Sürdürülebilir Kentsel Ulaşım Planı (SKUp)” kapsamında, 19-20 Temmuz 2024 tarihlerinde TED Üniversitesi ev sahipliğinde Hackathon etkinliği gerçekleştirildi. TED Üniversitesi ile birlikte diğer üniversitelerden 42 öğrencinin katıldığı etkinlikte paylaşımlı kamusal alanlarda bisiklet kullanımının geliştirilmesi, yaygınlaştırılması ve SKUp prensiplerinin uygulanmasına yönelik fikirler üretildi. #SMARTAnkara Projesi ve etkinlikle ilgili bilgi paylaşımının ardından 8 gruba ayrılan öğrenciler, yaratıcı proje fikirleri üzerine çalıştılar. Etkinliğin ikinci gününde ise öğrenciler geliştirdikleri projelerin sunumunu gerçekleştirdiler. Jüri değerlendirmesi sonucunda ödüle layık görülen ilk üç gruba ödülleri törenle takdim edildi. Kazananları tebrik ediyor, tüm katılımcılara teşekkür ediyoruz. Achieving long-term economic and social development in Sierra Leone hinges on strengthening governance. A central part of this endeavor is improving the capacity of local governance structures to deliver appropriate services to communities as part of an ongoing decentralization process. DAI implemented the European Union-funded Support to Civil Society and Local Authorities for Local Development project to foster decentralization by empowering local authorities and civil society groups in selected districts to collaboratively plan and implement community-centric initiatives, or capital investment projects that respond to community needs. https://lnkd.in/duuuwwik Working with relevant central government institutions, our technical experts aimed to promote #inclusive and #participative #reform processes. As the digital space is moving so quickly, we don’t yet have the language to comprehensively talk about protecting human rights online. Technology also moves so fast, and the requirements for workforce skills follow pace. It is therefore no surprise that formal curricula on digital rights are lacking, but there is hope that informal education can bridge this gap. #DigitalDAI #DigitalAcceleration #ICT4D #DigitalDemocracy

The rapid spread of false or misleading information on social media platforms undermines the progress of digital development. Disinformation is designed to manipulate facts, is often spread by undemocratic actors to advance their agendas, mislead the public, and can sow confusion around major events such as elections, conflicts, and epidemics. Digital development projects can mitigate the effects of disinformation by designing programs with these risks in mind. Below, we explore three steps organizations can take to mitigate the negative effects of disinformation and build information resilience.
