Over the last 14 years, Dalradian has already worked with 500+ suppliers, and our planned underground copper-gold-silver mine in Tyrone will create a host of new opportunities. A wide range of suppliers and contractors will be needed, covering everything from hospitality and laboratory services to construction and heavy equipment, security services, cement, PPE supplies, and engineering, among others. With planned expenditures of £750 million over the life of the mine, this represents one of the largest-ever US investments in Northern Ireland, bringing a substantial boost to the economy. Dalradian recognise the importance of calculating and reducing our carbon emissions. That’s why, beginning in 2019 we implemented a carbon management plan to actively reduce carbon emissions. To date, we have been able to reduce our total carbon footprint by 75.4% from the 2019 baseline. This achievement and other measures such as tree planting in Northern Ireland have helped us secure Carbon Neutral Plus status for 2023, the fifth year running. Our commitment extends to building and operating Europe’s first carbon-neutral mine. In 2019, we revised our proposals to lower emissions at the future mine by 25%. This includes utilizing electric vehicles where possible, transporting ore and waste rock to the surface via conveyor belt, and using underground ore-sorting equipment to reduce the volume of rock transported to the surface. We continue to keep abreast with developments in alternative fuel sources and electric vehicles for mine operations. We are also in discussions with potential suppliers of materials such as cement, steel and explosives, which are responsible for the largest component of future mine emissions using current practices, to identify areas for improvement. Let’s take a look at our project in numbers ⬇️ Although our mine operations may last up to 25 years, we have already submitted proposals to return the site to its present-day use in a Rehabilitation and Closure Plan. Rehabilitation is integral to the mine’s design and will start during operations. Our planning application includes a 100% funded, comprehensive closure and restoration plan for the mine. Dalradian will provide a financial guarantee and set aside funds (in advance and agreed with the Government) to cover all rehabilitation costs. Unlocking the Future: What happens after planning permission is received? If given the go-ahead, our project to build a world-class underground mine in Tyrone will move into the construction phase. Construction of the mine and its accompanying infrastructure is a massive project in itself, which will give a significant boost to the economy. This phase is expected to span 18-24 months, with a spend of over £100 million. Leveraging Tyrone's mining and quarrying equipment design and manufacturing expertise, we will source some processing equipment locally, alongside other goods and services. We anticipate a peak workforce of over 300 individuals on-site during this period. Did you know that 194 million ounces of silver were used in 2023 for solar panels, 11% of total global demand? Our future mine, if it receives planning permission, could meet 0.02% of that need. Silver is used in solar panels to create photovoltaic cells, which convert sunlight into electricity. Its electrical conductivity helps maximize energy output, making solar panels more efficient. By ensuring optimal performance, silver plays a crucial role in harnessing solar power for clean, renewable energy and creating a sustainable future! What will our proposed project in Tyrone look like? The below animation gives a bird's eye view of what will be visible on surface. Much of our activity will be underground, including some initial processing. In 2019, we made changes to our planning application that removed the use of cyanide. Although mine operations may last up to 20 years, Dalradian has already submitted proposals to return the site to its present-day use in a Rehabilitation and Closure Plan. We will set aside funds in advance to cover all rehabilitation costs. Our modern mine will use best practices and the latest technology to achieve high productivity while protecting the environment.
