---------- It was an honor to present our point of view recently on innovation in remittances to members to FICCAR (Financial Inclusion Consortium for Central American Remittances), a program of the Partnership for Central America. The PCA is part of US Vice President Kamala Harris’s Central America Forward initiative, and aims to support practical solutions to advance economic opportunity in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Digital Disruptions presented key insights from our digital remittances and migrant projects with clients in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, as well as practical guidance on functional insights (marketing, product, user experience, and strategy) as well as some innovation methodologies (e.g., design research, experimentation) that we have used. The International Day of Family Remittances highlights the enduring bonds that migrants around the world have with their families back home, and the valuable support that remittances play in sustaining livelihoods. Digital Disruptions has been privileged to support projects on domestic and cross-border remittances, and engage directly with migrants, in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.  See our case studies for more info:  https://lnkd.in/ecKVD9MQ.

We enjoyed attending the recent ProductCon in New York, where not surprisingly the talk was all about the impact of AI on the craft. Fantastic line-up of speakers from Slack, Amazon, Beats by Dre, American Express, and Warner Music Group, among others. There was general excitement how AI can help internally – by helping PMs doing more with less – and with key outputs, such as with product personalization or dynamic UI. Another sentiment expressed is that while AI is a powerful tool, the core principles of product won’t change – deeply understanding user needs, rapid experimentation to learn and de-risk, sound fundamentals for (eventual) profitability.

Thought-provoking insights at last week’s Service Design meet-up in Washington, DC on the future of the “craft” - great to hear from experts from a diverse set of top-tier organizations: Matthew Ford from Google, Joe Garcia from Capital One , Lora Allen, CCXP from USPTO, and Dr. Veronica X. Vela from Primary Care Coalition, and excellently moderated by Yvonne Tran from The New York Times. Looking forward to the next event!

This month we’re celebrating the 2-year anniversary of our User Experience and Interface Designer, Laura Sánchez! Laura is originally from Mexico and has been living in The Netherlands for the past 9 years. While her educational journey began in industrial design, for nearly a decade she has been passionately crafting digital solutions, most recently with Payconiq International, a fintech spinout from ING Bank. Beyond work, she channels her creativity through various artistic outlets, such as illustrating, playing music, or experimenting in the kitchen. One of her proudest moments at Digital Disruptions was conducting in-depth interviews and running usability tests with the local Ghanaian diaspora in Amsterdam last year for a money transfer project, shortly followed by running a design sprint with urban and rural recipients in Ghana. As an immigrant herself, Laura truly enjoys working directly with customers to design and launch meaningful products.

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 I’m thrilled to share that I’ve made it onto the Innovate Finance UK Women in Fintech Powerlist 2023 #WIFPowerlist23 🌟 The Powerlist celebrates the remarkable contributions of outstanding women, and I’m honored to be recognized in the ‘Professional & Financial Services’ category. 🙌 I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my boss, Amitabh Saxena, Managing Director at Digital Disruptions, for the incredible opportunities to work on impactful projects that I’m truly proud of and that led to this nomination: 🌍 Remittances Project with Ecobank Ghana PLC: For the largest bank in Ghana, we supported the enhancement of digital money transfer solutions for migrants in Europe, benefiting many recipients in Ghana —most of whom are women. 🌾 Design Research for Mastercard: We delved into the needs and realities of low-income farmers in India, intentionally looking into how to be inclusive of female farmers, in a male-dominated sector. 🌟 Empowering Young Women in Sierra Leone: Our design research collaboration with BRAC, a leading microfinance institution, took us to Sierra Leone. Despite the short notice, we conducted a design sprint with the local team, resulting in innovative ideas that the client is now piloting this year. Curious to see the full list of phenomenal women in Fintech for 2023? Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/dQ4jcaM2 🚀

Great insights on the potential of the garment sector to deepen financial inclusion - take a look!

View profile for Maria Clara Rezende, graphic

Head of UX Research and Design at Digital Disruptions | FinTech | Women in FinTech Powerlist 2023

🌐 Last week I had the privilege of attending an event in Paris on the Garment Sector and Financial Inclusion 👕 👗 👚 , as part of the 10th OECD Forum, co-hosted by the Better Than Cash Alliance, one of Digital Disruptions client partners. During a side session on responsible digital wages for garment workers, we had a thought-provoking discussion with several panelists including Ella Moffat from RISE, Tiffany Basciano from Ralph Lauren, and Johan Genneby from H&M. The conversation focused on the future of digital wages in the garment industry. From a design perspective, I came away with three main perspectives: 1️⃣ The commitment of organizations to use their influence over suppliers to promote the digitization of wages. 👍 I am impressed by organisations commitment and there is potential for significant improvements in the process, ensuring a more transparent and efficient wage distribution system.   2️⃣ The value of employing service design research to gain a deeper understanding of the journey of wages from suppliers to factory workers and how these earnings are utilized. 📱 This perspective can reveal opportunities for improving the efficiency and fairness of wage distribution, benefiting all stakeholders involved.   3️⃣ The digitization of wages represents a truly “wicked” problem that necessitates collaboration among various stakeholders, including brands, suppliers, workers, and the broader human networks and ecosystems that surround them. ❤️ With enough momentum, there is potential to transform a whole community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Samer Bakeer and Sara Puebla from the Better Than Cash Alliance for inviting us to this inspiring event, and we look forward to continuing the discussion. #oecd #garmentindustry #digitalwages #livingwage #digitalpayments #supplychaininnovation
