A recent JAMA study highlights administrative harm in healthcare - when administrative decisions cause unintended negative outcomes.
The study found that while only 6% of study participants were familiar with the term, 81% acknowledged that they made decisions that may have contributed to it.
While the term is new to many, the challenges are not. At DoctorPlan, we often speak with healthcare professionals looking to bridge gaps between clinicians, administrators, and patients.
We don't have all the answers, however, our platform offers practical solutions to help overcome some of these challenges:
📝 Clarity of Information:
Complex Processes: Timely patient education tools help patients understand their condition, treatment options, treatment plans, and relevant instructions—both enhancing patient comprehension and reducing administrative burden on the care team.
Informed Consent: Streamlining processes that improve patient understanding of the procedures, risks, and benefits reduces potential harm due to misunderstandings while safeguarding against malpractice.
💪 Empowerment:
Decision-Making: When patients are well-informed and empowered to advocate for themselves (or have tools that support the involvement of caregivers and other health advocates), they can help bridge the gap between administrative process errors and effective care delivery.
Navigating the System: With the right knowledge and processes in place, both patients and medical professionals can navigate the healthcare system more effectively.
We acknowledge the tireless efforts of medical professionals working to overcome these challenges. Your dedication is vital in making healthcare safer and more efficient for everyone.
Together, we can make a difference, one step at a time. 💙
