  • DSO Intern Forrest shares his thoughts on his time working with us: "During my time as an intern with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra, I faced new challenges and learned a lot about myself and my future career. From refining my skills to tackling tough tasks, every moment was valuable. One memorable experience was interviewing band teacher, Emma Germann, who also plays with the DSO. She reminded me that no matter my college major, I can keep my passion for music alive. Creating social media content for the DSO was a highlight. I loved designing posts that resonated with our audience and getting feedback to improve. You might have seen some of my work without knowing it was me! A challenging -- yet rewarding -- task was calling DSO season subscribers to renew their subscriptions. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, but I developed a system that helped me succeed. One of the best parts was interacting with patrons at the Cantigny “Flavors of France” concert. Meeting guests and working alongside fellow intern Bo made the experience unforgettable. This internship prepared me for college and beyond. The skills, creativity, and mentorship I gained will stay with me. Thank you, DSO, for this amazing opportunity!" Forrest Schauer participated in the IACA Summer Youth Employment in the Arts Program from May through July 2024. Best of luck to Forrest in his future endeavors! #DSOInternship #IACAYouthEmploymentGrant #YoungMusicians #MusicInTheCommunity #DuPageSymphony #DuPageSymphonyOrchestra #SupportTheArts #BoldAndBeautiful #DSO #DuPageSymphony #NapervilleIL #WheatonIL #Cantigny

  • FREE concert on Sunday 7/21 at 3pm at Wheaton Memorial Park - "All Creatures Great and Small" featuring Igor Stravinsky's "Firebird" ballet. Read more about the music below! "Firebird" is a mesmerizing spectacle of Russian folklore, using vibrant, fiery orchestration to follow the journey of a heroic prince through enchanted forests and magical realms. Upon capturing the mystical, otherwordly creature known as the Firebird, Prince Ivan uses its magic feather to battle the evil sorcerer, Koschei, and save the love of his life, Tsarvena, from being turned to stone. Stravinsky blended this Russian fairy tale with Yakov Polonsky's poem "A Winter's Journey," written in 1844, to compose this striking orchestral masterpiece. However, Russian ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev actually consulted multiple other composers before Stravinsky to find someone to write the "Firebird" score, but they each declined; even Stravinsky was initially reluctant about the project as he wasn't totally hooked on the concept and felt that he "had not yet proved [himself] as a composer." Despite his hesitance, "Firebird" ended up being one of Stravinsky's most remarkable works, completely transforming his career as a composer. See the DuPage Symphony Orchestra perform Stravinsky's "Firebird" ballet on July 21st at 3pm at Wheaton Memorial Park (225 Karlskoga Avenue) to find out if Prince Ivan can defeat Koschei and reunite with his love. • Free DSO summer concert on Sunday, July 21st at 3pm! Bring the whole family and join us at "All Creatures Great and Small" at Wheaton Memorial Park. Guest Conductor Andrew Dogan will be leading, and it's a very special occasion for all of us: he was also on the team at Williams Architects who designed the venue! From the strings of his violin as a DSO section musician to the podium as our featured summer conductor, Maestro Dogan's experiences are as inspiring as they are diverse. With his conducting journey starting at age 13, Andrew founded the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra, transforming a small chamber group into an award-winning symphony and conducting over 100 concerts. He's also served on the DSO Board of Directors as Marketing and IT Committee Chair. But Andrew's talents don't stop at music and non-profit service. A UIUC grad (who created an orchestra comprised entirely of architecture students and faculty!), he is a licensed architect and Managing Principal at Williams Architects, where he's designed stunning performance venues nationwide. This includes Wheaton Memorial Park, with its stunning acoustical bandshell -- the very venue of our July 21st concert. Maestro Dogan's expertise in both music and architecture ensures that every note sounds perfect, crisp, and clear. We hope to see you at the upcoming “All Creatures Great and Small” concert on Sunday July 21st, at 3:00 PM, in Wheaton Memorial Park. We will be partnering with the West Suburban Humane Society and Morna Freitas Photography, so look for these vendors when you arrive! The park will open at 2:00 PM. We encourage you to arrive early for best seats. A VIP section will be available for subscribers. To take advantage of this amazing perk, you can subscribe at https://buff.ly/3Lhm71Z by 7/21, or call the DSO box office at 630-778-1003. • 🎻✨ Last Saturday, the talented musicians of the DSO delivered an unforgettable performance at Cantigny Park! 🎶 The DuPage Symphony Orchestra, based in Naperville, is renowned for its exceptional artistry. As one audience member put it, “The level of virtuosity and artistry displayed by the DSO is on par with any of the local professional orchestras in the Chicago area.” We were all set for a legendary showdown with the Illinois cicada brood at Cantigny, but they were a no-show. Looks like they were too intimidated to attend, leaving the DSO to claim victory by default! If you missed this concert, don’t worry! Join us for the next free summer concert in the DSO’s lineup. Don’t miss out on the magic! 🎟️✨
