Whether the goal is economic development, community revitalization, or environmental restoration, infrastructure initiatives should provide multiple benefits for our citizens. P3 models can effectively deliver the results communities want from infrastructure projects because they can achieve multiple objectives and combine different funding streams. Our goal should not simply be to build a bridge; it should be to simultaneously build a bridge to the middle class and spur the local economy. Let’s make every project work harder and deliver better value by becoming a ‘two-fer or ‘three-fer. We build durable, broad support for infrastructure projects by providing tangible benefits for local communities. Pace Suburban Bus of Arlington Heights, Il, welcomed Gov. JB Pritzker, Illinois state representatives, Illinois Department of Transportation Secretary Omer Ozman, and Markham Mayor Roger A. Agpawa, along with state and community leaders, recently, to celebrate the completion of its new facility in Markham. Pace’s latest investment in the south suburbs marks a significant milestone in modernizing operations, bolstering the agency’s south suburban workforce, and enhancing central safety and training, including the introduction of a bus driver training course. “Investing in Pace and public transportation is not only a commitment to mobility and access to opportunity, but also a strategic investment that generates returns for our region’s economy,” said Pace Executive Director Melinda Metzger. “In addition to this building, this campus will be home to our customer relations, sign and shelter crew, our IT backup data center, and safety and training staff.” The Markham campus project was made possible by a $7.1 million investment from the governor’s historic, bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital program and an additional $27.1 million in state funding. Additional funding was provided by the Federal Transit Administration ($1.3 million), Regional Transportation Authority of Northeastern Illinois (RTA) Bonds ($1.9 million), and Pace capital funds ($2.6 million). “Not only does this project make Pace a more efficient and modern part of our transit system, but it also prioritizes clean and efficient energy growth—a win across the board,” said Gov. Pritzker. “Rebuild Illinois is funding projects like this all across the state, making a stronger Illinois that works better for its people.” The Markham site has spurred economic development through job creation and will improve access to employment by supporting Pace service throughout the south suburbs. “One of the hallmarks of my administration as chairman of the Pace Board is ensuring that Pace contributes to economic development in our region. This project is another example of that value we create,” said Rick Kwasneski.

The most complex #infrastructure project in the U.S. received a major boost yesterday: Governor Kathy Hochul, Senator Chuck Schumer and leaders from all levels of government joined the Gateway Development Commission (GDC) to announce more than $6.8 billion in funding for the Hudson River Tunnel Project. Our CEO, Gregory Kelly, in his role as STV's JV Principal on the project, was present to celebrate this significant milestone. 🌟 The project will create two new tunnels under the Hudson River and improve the existing tunnels. STV has been a long-standing partner for Gateway, providing, in joint venture, preliminary engineering design and currently serving as the designer-of-record. Carlo Scissura, president & CEO of the Building Congress, highlighted the monumental impact of this project, stating, "Today’s funding announcement is an incredible moment for New York. This once-in-a-lifetime project will improve the lives of countless Americans along the Eastern Seaboard, spurring $20 billion in economic activity and creating 95,000 good-paying jobs." This announcement represents a major step forward for #infrastructure and economic growth in the New York metropolitan area and for the entire northeast corridor. 🗽

BIG NEWS! Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the approval of over $1.9 billion to support public transportation throughout the state. The funding was approved by CalSTA and is the first wave of funding from the transit recovery package in the 2023-24 state budget. As part of Senate Bill 125 (2023), a total of $5.1 billion will be distributed among regional transportation planning agencies over the course of multiple years. This funding comes with the flexibility to pay for transit operations or capital improvements. The money announced today will go to 22 agencies, with amounts varying based on regional population. Governor Newsom: "This vital funding serves as a lifeline for transit agencies all over the state and helps to advance California’s ambitious, world-leading climate goals. At the same time, we’re adding accountability measures that help put our state’s transit agencies on a path toward long-term stability. Secretary Toks Omishakin: “California’s commitment to public transit is unwavering, and with billions more in funding in the pipeline – including for zero-emission equipment and operations – we are just getting started in delivering a more sustainable and equitable transit system for the people of California. I thank Governor Newsom and our legislative leaders for continuing to prioritize public transit.” CalSTA anticipates approving additional allocation packages for remaining planning agencies throughout the summer, totaling nearly $500 million. The remaining SB 125 funds will be approved annually through fiscal year 2027-28. https://lnkd.in/g7qTYfas
