We’ve known Rexhep Rexhepi since the earliest days of ATELIER AKRIVIA For us, the AK-06 holds a special place in the growth and development of one of the craft’s most beloved watchmakers. The open-worked dial showcases the intricacies of three mechanisms – the power reserve, the keyless works, and zero-reset for the seconds. With any open-worked watch, the challenge is always finding an arrangement that doesn’t leave the dial overly cluttered. The AK-06’s case is much more elaborate than comparable haute horlogerie, time-only watches. It’s composed of multiple components and inserts, creating a tonneau shape, and features chamfering and polishing along the edges. This was also a step toward smaller cases found on the most recent Chronomètre Contemporain timepieces – the AK-06 is 41mm x 9.9mm compared to the 43mm cases on earlier AkriviA watches. For a time-only watch, the AK-06 caliber provides tremendous depth with the bridges, then barrel, and finally going train in the central recessed cavern of the movement. To us, the icon status for the AK-06 is heavily connected with how well it balances modernity and tradition, simplicity and complexity, chaos and symmetry. The Greubel Forsey Double Balancier Convexe, now available at EsperLuxe. Featuring three regulating mechanisms, two inclined balance wheels and one differential, the beating heart of the watch occupies the bottom half of the dial. Fundamentally, the idea behind the 30 degree inclined balance wheels and differential is that this arrangement maintains the most precise rates of timekeeping. The inclined balance wheels hedge against the loss of timekeeping precision in both extreme positions of fully vertical and horizontal, while the differential averages the rates from each balance wheel when one may run slightly faster or slower than the other. Measuring 43.5mm x 13.75mm, the titanium case coupled with the sleek, convex curvature alongside creates a snug, light fit on the wrist. Presenting the Felipe Pikullik HTH in Chinese numerals with lucky serial number #8. In keeping with traditional elements Felipe presents a frosted non-lacquered brass dial. The texture of the dial is created through sandblasting, to reach a grainy texture with black rhodium plating. The Chapter ring is applied on the base dial and finished through black polishing. Inspired by Harrison’s H4, the timepiece that was the forerunner to the marine chronometer, the HTH uses a completely reworked ETA 6498 caliber as the base to display the watchmaker’s skills in skeletonization, finishing, and hand engraving. The movement is disassembled, rhodium-plated for the base plate and gold-plated for the balance cock, and adorned with anglage and floral patterned engraving throughout. The URWERK UR-230 Eagle. This "Eagle" adds something new to the collection with its exterior, design and mechanics. The brand’s signature turbines have been improved upon through innovative shock absorbers designed to protect the all-new, in-house UR-7.30 caliber. A first set of turbines is dedicated to attenuating the impact of any external shock, a second set controls the flow of air that feeds the winding system. The strength of this "air brake," designed to modulate the winding power according to the wearer's level of activity, is set by a rotating knob on the back of the watch. The UR-230 “Eagle” features a cover that provides protection for the large sapphire crystal covering the wandering-hour mechanism, with a braking system that denies the possibility of slamming into the sapphire crystal. Crafted entirely out of CTP Carbon, the material offers a great combination of light weight, durable stiffness, and matte aesthetic effect. Dedicated to openworked movements and often unusual complications, we’re privileged to offer the Armin Strom Orbit. The Armin Strom Orbit reimagines the date function. As the naked eye notices quickly, the date is indicated on the ceramic bezel. By pressing the monopusher, the owner of this timepiece can watch the date indicator jump from the “off” 12 o’clock position to the current date. This interactivity is facilitated by what the brand calls the “column-wheel date” complication. Typically found on chronograph movements, the introduction of a date function powered by an invisible column wheel helps drive and stabilize the date indicator as it jumps around the dial. From the perspective of creativity, it’s rare to see date mechanisms in any other form than their usual date-windows or on the periphery of the dial. With short lugs, this 43 mm timepiece wears comfortably on smaller wrists. Factoring in the steel bracelet with polished and brushed links, the Orbit is an exceptional take on a sports watch from Armin Strom. The Felipe Pikullik Sternenhimmel, now available at EsperLuxe. Connected to this timepiece’s name (Sternenhimmel is “starry sky” in German), the dial is uncluttered with three small diamonds as hour markers and the watchmaker’s name plate at 12 o’clock. Gorgeously finished dauphine-style hour and minute hands complete the aesthetic, leaving collectors with plenty to admire. The timepiece’s movement, the hand skeletonized ZBH1 caliber, is striking with an attention to detail for finishing that is tough to match at these prices. The movement is crafted out of the ETA 6497-1, a pocket watch movement, that has been modified and transformed into a creation of Felipe’s vision. The bridges are treated with dark rhodium plating, creating a wonderful juxtaposition between the frosted surfaces and mirror polished anglage. Case diameter and height of 41mm by 10.5mm, it’s a comfortable mid-sized timepiece for wrists, small and large. Earlier this year Arnold & Son released its first ever timepiece on a bracelet, this is the all-new Longitude Titanium in “Ocean Blue.” Coming with an interchangeable, blue strap, this is a nicely priced, sport-chic timepiece with a high-level finish. As a natural consequence of the brand’s maritime identity, Longitude presents a titanium case whose curves and profile are directly inspired by the design of contemporary sailing boats. The case middle is taut like a ship’s waterline, while the case back is basin-shaped like a keel. The base of the bezel – the ship’s rail – is graduated with 60 notches, echoing the fluted ring of John Arnold’s marine chronometers. The finishes – polished on the flanks and satin-finished on the flat surfaces – continue this high-sea influence. The crown, protected by a shoulder, is screwed down to guarantee water resistance to 100 meters. At the heart of Longitude Titanium beats the new A&S6302 caliber, certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC). It is wound by an oscillating weight with a design influenced by sailing. Its shape is reminiscent of the prow of an 18th-century English frigate cleaving through the water, and it is carved from a single block of 22-carat gold.
