As many of our private equity clients saw in our recent white paper, "Evolving Strategies for Private Equity Exit Readiness," we discussed the difficulties in the current private equity environment, with average hold periods reaching a seven-year record high. As we've seen throughout Q1 and Q2 discussions with our private equity clients, there are many drivers behind this, including: · Rising interest rates · A slowly recovering IPO market · A divergence between buyer and seller valuations This is also causing limited partner pressure on distributions for funds, which is negatively impacting the speed of fundraising efforts. As a result of these challenges, we've seen a significant change in how our private equity clients are engaging us in exit planning. Rather than initiating planning six to 12 months prior to the sale, which was historically the case, more recently, clients are developing exit plans 18 months prior to the sale. Additionally, they're focused on areas that are broader than in the past, such as IT and ERP maturity, go-to-market strategy, and cost optimization.
