About us
The Funders’ Network (TFN) exists to inspire, strengthen and expand funding and philanthropic leadership that yield environmentally sustainable, socially equitable and economically prosperous regions and communities. Our vision is that the Funders’ Network will be the leading resource in philanthropy for interdisciplinary and transformative thinking and action that gives all people the opportunity to live in more environmentally sustainable, socially equitable and economically prosperous regions and communities. TFN believes that collaboration is where real change takes root. When funders decide to act, lead, and advance an agenda together, entire regions and policies can be transformed. We staff funder working groups by providing support to help advance shared learning, develop best practices, create policy agendas, support policy reforms, and improve outcomes on issues and in places. While each issue- or place-based funder working group has its own priority agenda and work plan, the working groups use similar models and tactics for raising funder awareness, building funder knowledge and capacity, and facilitating impact and action. These tools and approaches include: -Funder outreach and education -Convening and networking -Research and analysis -Supporting regional and place-based practice -Pooled funds and investments -Policy reform In addition to the working groups currently staffed by the Network, we also provide strategic support and services to other place-based and regional funder collaboratives, such as the Great Communities Collaborative in the Bay Area, the Central Corridor Funders Collaborative in the Twin Cities, and an emerging Intermountain West Funder Network.

Love to see it! California funders came together this week to talk climate, conservation and community resilience in coastal areas. Check out these pics from Tuesday's gathering of the Climate Funders’ Collaborative - part of TFN's Smart Growth California initiative - at San Diego's Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve. During the gathering, funders: 🌊 Met with leaders from the ReWild Mission Bay Coalition to learn about efforts to enhance and restore the bay’s natural wetlands - which would mean cleaner water, greater climate resilience and increased carbon sequestration - and improve public access along the public bayfront. 🌊 Heard from partners working on the conservation of San Diego’s coastal lagoons, and other resilience efforts for our coastal communities. 🙏 Special thanks to: Jelani O. from the Builders Initiative for helping organize this session! Our speakers for sharing their time and insights: ✨ Travis Kemnitz & Andrew-Meyer, San Diego Audubon Society ✨ Amber Pairis, Climate Science Alliance ✨ Serge Dedina, Ph.D., WILDCOAST ✨ Ana Gloria (Martha) Rodriguez, Tipey Joa Native Warriors ✨ Phillip Musegaas, San Diego Coastkeeper And members of our amazing Climate Funders' Collaborative Steering Committee who joined us for this event: ✨ Christiana DeBenedict (Co-Chair), San Diego Foundation ✨ Marisa Aurora Quiroz, International Community Foundation ✨ Andrea Sanchez Davidson, Resources Legacy Fund ✨ Kara Ballester, BQuest Foundation The Climate Funders' Collaborative supports funder learning and collaboration to promote healthy, equitable, and sustainable communities in the Baja, Imperial and San Diego Region. Rural areas – particularly low-income and/or BIPOC communities – are at a disadvantage in accessing federal funds. Join us Thursday, July 25 2-3:30pm ET for the webinar “The Latest: Leveraging Federal Funds & Building Community Capacity in Rural.” This funder-only learning call is presented in partnership with Neighborhood Funders Group and Health and Environmental Funders Network (HEFN). More info and registration info ⬇
Please join NFG’s Integrated Rural Strategies Group and its partners Health and Environmental Funders Network (HEFN) and The Funders Network for an upcoming webinar on Thursday, July 25 2-3:30pm ET. “The Latest: Leveraging Federal Funds & Building Community Capacity in Rural” is the second in a series of quarterly calls focused on accessing and leveraging federal funds to build capacity and advance justice for frontline communities. As funding opportunities roll out at a dizzying pace, many communities are already implementing projects with awarded funds. Despite how rural communities reflect some of the most important and opportune communities for investment, these communities – particularly low-income and/or BIPOC rural populations – are at a disadvantage in accessing federal funds. Due to decades of divestment and extraction from these communities, many are not “shovel ready,” oftentimes operating with extremely limited capacity and infrastructure to be able to successfully track, pursue, receive, and manage these resources. As funding opportunities continue to open up – and with the potential for November’s election to dramatically shift the availability of these funding streams – philanthropy must act. Click the link below to register and learn more about the event speakers! Please note: registration is open to funders only. https://lnkd.in/gKk-Rys2
