Day 1 of the Global Black Economic Forum’s Public Convention at Essence Festival advanced thought leadership on myriad issues that will inform and define the future of work. Panels addressed innovative approaches to reframe the narrative towards equitable prosperity and the true cost of living, preparing the future workforce with artificial intelligence, addressing food insecurity and housing storage with new approaches, building and scaling business ventures for multicultural audiences and case studies on accessing capital. At the Global Black Economic Forum summit at Essence Festival, we focused on the importance of Black banks in closing the racial wealth gap. In our public forum Jabari Young hosted an outstanding panel discussion that included Rep. Maxine Waters, Shawn Wooden and Monique Idlett-Mosley. Read this terrific coverage by Melissa Noel.

We mourn the passing of the legendary Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and celebrate her life-long commitment to justice. She was a stalwart of equality and used all of her power and spirit to empower marginalized people. During her long and distinguished public service career, she did not cower to fear but instead embraced the responsibility for upholding core principles of freedom, justice and equality. Rest in power.

The Global Black Economic Forum’s Business Summit at Essence Festival was a resounding success. From the Vice President of Columbia Francia Márquez highlighting the importance and impact of cross bilateral business investments for the Black Diaspora to Robert F. Smith and Richelieu Dennis outlining key strategies for building generational wealth to Thasunda Brown Duckett and Rashida Jones showing us the vision and urgency required of leaders in this moment to Democratic Leader Hon. Hakeem Jeffries reminding us that there is a difference between between being knocked down and being knocked out. We're teaming up with the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to launch a comprehensive effort to mobilize and empower Black women for the 2024 election. As Black Enterprise Magazine writes, "The campaign, in collaboration with the Global Black Economic Forum, aims to celebrate Black women leaders in the political realm, recruit Black women to play a role as nonpartisan poll monitors on Election Day, and educate voters with nonpartisan resources to increase voter turnout. By also getting involved, volunteers will be able to nominate Black women defending our democracy with the Black Woman Voting Rights Champions In Your Network campaign." https://lnkd.in/eUw8ZwNH
