"For people living with HIV and for all populations, it simply means going to where they are, meeting them at the point of need and journeying together with them towards securing viral suppression." Hear from Betty Adera (MPH, PMD, PgMD), Global Communities' Senior Technical Advisor for HIV/AIDS and Health, as she discusses what it means to #PutPeopleFirst in HIV care and shares takeaways from Day 1 at the International Aid Conference. #AIDS2024

Through a combination of emergency response, sustainable solutions and creative partnerships in Huehuetenango and beyond – we have made significant strides in Guatemala towards improving the lives of those most vulnerable to poverty, malnutrition and the impacts of natural disasters. Last year, the Podemos (“We Can”) program distributed multi-purpose cash assistance, which helped to enhance food security in the region and provide more than 4,800 households with critical support to meet their basic needs. Learn more about these efforts and more in our 2023 Impact Recap: https://bit.ly/3zXWykb

Across the globe, savings groups are increasingly using digital solutions – such as digital ledgers and wallets – to manage group records and conduct financial transactions. Global Communities started piloting the digitization of savings groups in 2017 in Tanzania using DreamSave—a digital ledger designed by DreamStart Labs. Through this process, we experienced some of the challenges that come with embracing technology, witnessed significant wins and explored where there might be global gaps in knowledge. With support from the FAHU Foundation and other private donors, over the last few years, we convened resources and created a community for innovators planning, implementing, developing technology for or studying digital savings groups. https://lnkd.in/gCZRYYw2

We are devastated to share that our colleague, Alaa Abu Al-Khair, was killed on July 19 in an IDF strike along with his wife, son, daughter and other members of his family. A second son survived, however his condition and status is unknown. Alaa joined the ILEED team in June as an IT Specialist. He and his family were displaced from Rafah to central #Gaza after the military ground operations began. He is among more than 250 humanitarian workers who have been killed since the onset of the war. The level of human suffering happening in Gaza is beyond comprehension. For him, his family and the innocent lives lost daily in this conflict, we continue to urgently call for a #ceasefire and adherence to international humanitarian laws.

"We no longer trek for hours in search of water. It’s right here, within our reach. This project is a blessing, a game-changer." - Barikisu, Mandari community member Global Communities - Ghana continues to build on over a decade of experience creating sustainable improvements in water and sanitation access in Ghana. In Sri Lanka, peace and conflict resolution are vital for fostering social cohesion and inclusive governance. The SCORE program, supported by USAID, plays a significant role in this by promoting a cohesive identity and reducing socio-economic disparities, thereby enhancing community resilience and contributing to reconciliation and trust. For #WorldYouthSkillsDay, we want to spotlight the transformative impact of SCORE and its efforts to encourage Sri Lankan youth to be agents of positive change in their communities. Equipping 601 students at Hardy with crucial soft skills is just one example of how this program is bridging the gap between education and employment, fostering peace and nurturing young leaders for a competitive job market.

Drawing from over seven decades of learnings, we partnered with local leaders, governments, civil society and the private sector to meet urgent needs and lay the groundwork for lasting, community-driven development. Our Impact Recap 2023 Annual Report highlights what we were able to accomplish together, across five continents and in nearly 30 countries. To prevent famine in #Gaza, adequate and sustained levels of humanitarian aid must flow regularly into the country. We continue to serve as the World Food Programme's main implementing partner and have reached more than 100,400 people in the past two weeks with food parcels. Since January, more than 3 million hot meals have been served.

Last year, the USAID Resilience in Pastoral Areas South (RIPA South) project launched an initiative in several communities to restore rangeland through regenerative grazing. Pastoralists were trained in a grazing strategy that promotes soil regeneration and fertility enhancement through the animals’ hoof movements and waste. Approximately 650,600 hectares of degraded rangelands are currently undergoing regeneration and results are already being seen through improved soil moisture and newly sprouted healthy grasses. #Sustainability #RegenerativeGrazing
