SCAN's Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program has a critical need for volunteers to serve children in Richmond and Petersburg. There are currently 65 children on our waitlist in need of an advocate. Children who have experienced abuse or neglect may face a lot of change and uncertainty. Courtrooms. Foster care. New schools. All while dealing with the trauma of abuse or neglect, and potentially the trauma of being removed from home. At CASA, we make sure children don’t face this alone. Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) Resilience Week enters its fifth year, with 31 Trauma Informed Community Networks (TICNs) in Virginia hosting activities and gatherings for the public. We created a bright and hopeful campaign bringing together community voices to illustrate how TICNs provide resources and build resilience through connection, community, and care. SCAN's Board of Young Professionals is accepting applications for membership for our 24-25 year! This group of kind and passionate individuals serves as advocates for SCAN, coordinates events for children and families that come to SCAN for services, raises funds and increases awareness about our programs, and participates in social events and volunteer opportunities. One of SCAN's five programs, Community Programs, offers trainings on a variety of subjects that anyone can join for free. For 8 years and counting, Outreach Manager Marly Santoro with the SCC Bureau of Insurance has volunteered her time to Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now), a non-profit dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. SCAN provides awareness, support, advocacy, treatment and education needed to enhance the lives of children. As former president and longstanding member of SCAN’s Board of Young Professionals (BYP), Marly has played an instrumental role in raising awareness for the mission through her work in coordinating two different programs in the Greater Richmond area: the Holiday Shop and the Blue and White Ball. “In particular, the Holiday Shop is a program that’s very special to me,” Marly shares. “The Holiday Shop is an opportunity for families served by SCAN’s programs to experience holiday cheer. The BYP decorates, organizes arts and crafts, brings in Santa and provides gifts during the holiday season where all children and families deserve extra love and support. Last year, SCAN served over 300 children through its Holiday Shop.” Thank you for all you do, Marly!
