How Easy Has It Become to Launch a Ransomware Attack? Too easy, thanks to the rise of Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS). RaaS groups operate as a legitimate business, with top-down hierarchical structures, partner programs, diversified revenue streams, and customer support. And they are not discerning, targeting any organization and industry, constantly looking for a way into networks and systems. But as our CEO, Jon Miller, explains to Ben Carr – one of the biggest problems is that RaaS has taken all of the technical difficulty out of ransomware attacks. It has become far too easy for low-skilled affiliates to: - Go online and register with a RaaS platform - Select their preferred ransomware package - Manage their activities with user-friendly dashboards provided by the RaaS group Gone is the requirement of advanced technical skills in social engineering, phishing, or exploiting software vulnerabilities to become a dangerous cybercriminal. And as Ben and Jon agree – this puts the democratization of ransomware ahead of anything that exists in defense. Gary has long and storied career in security and offers his perspective on what's changed over the years and where we should be keeping focus. AI is everywhere - is it more than just a buzzword? How does being a cloud-first organization like SoftBank influence how the security stack is developed? Why is endpoint security still so important and why is it such a challenge> Gary sorts it all out for us - check it out... https://lnkd.in/g_J76Cvv #infosec #security #cybersecurity

North Korean Operations Highlight #Espionage and #Ransomware Overlap Attacks underscore blurring of lines between nation-state-supported operations and those conducted by #cybercriminal elements. This convergence is particularly evident in ransomware attacks, where we typically see three distinct models: - The Russian Model: Attackers are financially motivated and allowed to profit from their activities, but they also receive direction to target entities that align with Russian geopolitical objectives. - The Iranian Model: Less prolific but notable, where ransomware and destructive wipers are employed as diversionary tactics or for general disruption. In many cases, no ransom is demanded, or there is no genuine effort to collect a ransom. - The North Korean (DPRK) Model: Here, nation-state ransomware operators conduct attacks aimed both at causing disruption to regional adversaries and generating funds for the financially strapped DPRK. https://lnkd.in/gUxsvWXZ #cybersecurity #infosec #security #cyberattack #DPRK Halcyon

Why Do Organizations Choose Halcyon for Ransomware Protection? As Troy McDonald, Director of Information Technology at MOGAS Industries, Inc. tells our CISO, Ben Carr, it came down to Halcyon’s ability to stop ransomware from executing. Founded in 1973 in Houston, MOGAS manufactures dependable severe service ball valves for power plants, refining and petrochemical processes, oil and gas, and mining industries. Since their inception, the company has expanded worldwide, with sales and service centers in China, Australia, South America, Africa, the Middle East and Europe, as well as representatives and technicians in more than 40 countries. While the company had EDR solutions in place, MOGAS believed it was important to supplement their existing systems with a cybersecurity solution that was specifically targeted at ransomware. Check out Ben’s interview with Troy to hear more about the value Halcyon is bringing to MOGAS, including: - Ransomware protection - The simple implementation of Halcyon’s platform across MOGAS’ endpoints and IT environment - The low oversight and platform maintenance required #ransomware #cybersecurity #customersuccess #infosec

#NCPA and #Healthcare Providers in 22 States Sue #ChangeHealthcare #Optum #UHG Over Ransomware Attack A survey by the American Hospital Association (AHA) revealed that 74% of providers reported the outage impacted patient care, while 94% cited financial repercussions. Similarly, a survey by the American Medical Association (AMA) found that over 80% of providers reported lost revenue, and some were not able to make payroll. With ransomware-as-a-service (#RaaS) platforms proliferating and initial access brokers doing the heavy lifting of compromising networks, the barrier to entry as a #ransomware attacker has never been lower. This is very concerning because, as far as the maturity of the ransomware threat is concerned, we are still at the dawn of the cyber extortion era: https://lnkd.in/gfZJct7J #cybersecurity #infosec #security Halcyon

At the RSA Conference 2024 Halcyon spoke to some of the most interesting people in attendance, including best selling author Michael J. Daugherty, Founder and CEO of LabMD, a cancer testing laboratory, who spent most of the last decade fighting the FTC (and winning) as documented in his best selling book “The Devil Inside the Beltway." So why did the #FTC come after a little cancer testing company with big allegations around the potential breach of client PHI? How did a rogue security company put Mike and #LabMD under fire with their shady business practices and some powerful tools from the #FBI? How did Mike triumph and become one of the most sought-after speakers in the security space on issues of data protection? Mike has a story you'll really want to hear - check it out... https://lnkd.in/gjHU48Wh #infosec #security #cybersecurity
