On June 6, our youth members Ames, Bethany, Brklyn, Ivy, Jaz, and Will participated in Dream Day 2024, the signature conference of the Coach Foundation's 'Dream It Real' initiative in partnership with Coachtopia. They joined other young people from non-profit organizations at Tapestry’s Hudson Yards for a day of learning about sustainability in the fashion world. Coach described it as "an immersive day of connection, mentorship, and professional development.” Our youth had an amazing time meeting peers and engaging in panels, discussion groups, and interactive labs. Thank you to our partners, Coach and Tapestry, for their dedication to young people and their longstanding partnership with HMI. We are incredibly proud of our young artists, whose work is now on display at the City Hall Rotunda in honor of Pride Month. Six students of HMI’s Comic Book Art group, led by Art Instructor Gianna Meola, created a multi-panel comic showcasing their unique perspectives on Pride and personal stories. These powerful pieces explore gender expansive experience, mental health struggles, interpersonal support, as well as personal traumas and triumphs. The installation, unveiled by NYC Mayor Eric Adams, was curated by Jonathan Rheingold and Bari Zahn. Visit hmi.org/pride to view the gallery and read the press release. #hmipride

We’re thrilled to be featured in NY1 News’ Pride special, “Proud Legacy,” hosted by Frank DiLella. What a wonderful way to mark our 45-year anniversary! Spectrum News reporter Stef Manisero visited HMI to meet with former youth members Jaszi Alejandro and Frank Julca, along with our Chief Program Officer, Bridget Hughes. The special airs on NY1 today through Sunday. You can also watch it by visiting the “Pride Press Coverage” section at hmi.org/pride. Meanwhile, enjoy some highlights from the feature. Special thanks to Jaszi, Frank, Bridget, and everyone involved in creating this wonderful piece. Happy Pride! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ #hmipride

We are immensely grateful to the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) ‘s NY LIBERTY and their corporate partner, RMA of New York, for their generous $5,000 donation to HMI! They invited us to their home game at Barclays Center on Saturday, June 22, where our Senior Director of Youth Development, Lazara Paz-Gonzalez, DrPH(s) and General Case Manager, Tara Chee, LMSW proudly accepted the check. It was an unforgettable evening, and an honor to be recognized in front of thousands at the event for our work to support queer and trans youth. Lazara and Tara had an incredible time at the pride-themed game, and the energy in the arena was absolutely electric! 🌈🏀 Check out the highlights in our gallery at hmi.org/pride.
