Your company likely has a high number of parents and caregivers in their workforce (HBR estimates about 73%). But how many of us know, exactly, how those parents and caregivers are doing — and which ones of them are most in need of support? We're excited to share Cleo's Family Health Index (FHI) Annual Report, a comprehensive look at the health and wellbeing of caregivers in the workforce. This report takes the whole family into consideration, and measures mental health, caregiving burden, family support, and other dimensions to assess individual burnout risk. It includes findings such as: ▶️ Nearly half (48%) of parenting and caregiving members screen positive for symptoms of depression and/or anxiety. ▶️ 33% of Cleo’s parenting and caregiving members are at higher risk for burnout, primarily among school-aged parents, high school parents, and adult caregivers. The risk rises to 47% for sandwich generation members, underscoring the necessity for a unified platform to comprehensively identify and support all caregiving journeys. ▶️ A lower overall FHI score, indicating a higher risk for burnout, correlates with greater productivity losses (presenteeism & absenteeism). The report shares the key insights and correlations gathered from Cleo's general population and higher-risk members, as well as explores how members’ FHI scores change over time. You can’t improve what you don’t measure. So why don't we measure how parents and caregivers are doing? The caregiver crisis, depending on who you talk to, is either dangerously looming or already here. Companies who are prepared are those who understand exactly which of their employees are most at-risk, how to mitigate those risks with interventions, and how to measure exactly how successful those interventions were. Join experts from Genentech and Validation Institute on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern for a free webinar on how data can inform, and improve, caregiver health and productivity:

This is incredibly consistent with our Family Health Index™ findings, that parents of teenagers are some of the most vulnerable and least equipped caregivers in the workforce. It's important to understand the needs of this population and to treat them with the same flexibility as you would a parent of a new baby:

Parents of teens experience ‘less tolerance of family duties’ from employers, despite their older kids needing them more than ever

Incredible news: Cleo's Family Health Index™ has been validated by the independent third party Validation Institute 🎉 What does this mean? It means that Validation Institute essentially "audited" our measurement tool for the health and wellbeing of parents and caregivers, and found the following: ✅ Cleo’s Family Health Index™ accurately measures key dimensions of participants’ health and assesses their need for support for parenting and caregiving. ✅ The Family Health Index™ score also accurately reflects and correlates to the participant’s work productivity, giving Cleo the ability to identify people who are more likely to lose time from or be less productive at work due to parenting or caregiving. ✅ Engagement with Cleo improves higher risk members' overall Family Health Index™ scores and Emotional Wellness (PHQ-4) scores. ✅ Cleo’s cost saving analysis offers an evidence-based estimate of Cleo’s emotional wellness support impact on medical costs. Learn more in our blog, where you can download your copy of the report.

The cost of parenting is unsustainable. If you're reading this post, chances are you understand this to some degree. This article highlights how it's more important now than ever before for businesses to put benefits and policies in place to support their employees who are parents and caregivers, so that they can remain dedicated and undistracted employees. "So many parents find that their work salary only covers the cost of child care, leaving them questioning why they'd bother finding a job. That's a really difficult spot to be in, but it is far from uncommon." Read more here 👇

Community for caregivers. It's essential. "Building a supportive community for employees with caregiving responsibilities is essential for their well-being and for the overall health of the organization, and should be considered as part of the overall benefits package included with more traditional benefits such as flexible work arrangements, back-up eldercare, and family leave." We're honored to both offer Cleo members community connection with other parents and caregivers in similar life stages as part of our core offering, as well as to partner with our amazing customers to enhance caregiver community spaces within their workplaces. "Indeed, a lot of employers have no idea what’s going on in the lives of their employees who are caregivers, according to a 2019 study at Harvard Business School by professor Joseph B. Fuller and program director Manjari Raman. Only 24 percent of the employers in the study said that caregiving influenced workers’ performance. Meanwhile, 80 percent of employees with caregiving responsibilities conceded that caregiving affected their productivity." If you've been reading articles about the caregiving crisis for months (or even years), you know it's beyond time to support the parents and caregivers in your organization -- because they're already struggling. We're proud to bridge the gap between employers and their employees, so that no one has to weather caregiving struggles alone.
