  • We are thrilled to witness and support Markham District Energy on the groundbreaking of their new #wastewaterenergytransfer (WET) project!  As the largest WET project in the world, this new infrastructure will strengthen community sustainability by expanding low-carbon heating and cooling to even more buildings across Markham, ON.     We applaud the collaboration and leadership of the Honorable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance for Canada, Mayor of Markham, Frank Scarpitti, MP of Markham-Stouffville Paul Chiang, VP of Commercial Strategy and Development at Enbridge Gas, Heidi Bredenholler-Prasad, Founder & CEO of Noventa Energy Partners, Dennis Fotinos, Chair of FCM's Ontario Caucus, Rory Nisan and MDE President and CEO Bruce Ander for your commitments to creating a lower-carbon economy for the citizens of Markham, the province of Ontario and across Canada.  #sustainablecities #thermalenergynetworks   Since its inception as a municipal district energy utility in 2000, Markham District Energy has delivered reliable, resilient energy to customers across the local economy through aggregation, innovation and integrating proven technologies at community scale. Recovering useful thermal energy from wastewater is both clever and common sense. The global IDEA community looks forward to watching and learning from Markham District Energy in the months ahead.
