From public policy and IRA eligibility for district energy systems to decarbonizing cities by accelerating investment in clean energy infrastructure, we covered large scale thermal storage and some of the most pressing issues facing the #EnergyTransition. The conference concluded with tours of innovative district cooling plants owned and operated by OUCooling. With extreme heat building in cities across the US, efficient #DistrictEnergy is critical for public safety and supporting local economies. Thank you to all for attending! #DistrictEnergy2024

While #IDEA2024 provides us with the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from experts in the #energy and #sustainability sector on how they use #DistrictEnergy to provide reliable, resilient heating, cooling and power to the communities they serve, it also allows us to recognize the amazing organizations and people who have made a difference throughout the industry. This year, we are pleased to honor the following recipients of the IDEA System of the Year Award, The Joseph M. Brilhart IDEA Innovation Award, and The Norm Taylor Person of the Year Award: University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is this year’s winner of the IDEA System of the Year Award. The UIUC team is being recognized for its cogeneration system, which couples the generation and consumption of energy streams to reduce cost and emissions. Enwave Energy Corporation received the Joseph M. Brillhart IDEA Innovation Award for its work to help decarbonize the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. In a truly innovative method, Enwave is capturing and repurposing the waste heat from cooling customers in the district, to deliver low-carbon heating to the Royal York Hotel. Additionally, congratulations to Empower Energy Solutions Dubai and Ecosystem for their Innovation Award Honorable Mentions. And, congratulations to Tom Nyquist of Princeton University on being named this year’s Norm Taylor Person of the Year. Tom’s efforts as the Executive Director of Engineering and Campus Energy at Princeton have allowed the University to make great strides toward its net-zero goals. Congratulations to all winners and thank you for all the work you have done to advance our mission and #decarbonization as a whole!

Clean #Energy investment is booming in the U.S. and it looks different than in the past. Former Director of the White House National Economic Council and architect of the Inflation Reduction Act, Brian Deese delivered the keynote address to a full house at #IDEA2024. The policy landscape has changed dramatically since his last appearance at our annual conference. Three key legislative efforts, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the CHIPS Act were all designed to operate together and encourage long-term energy investment and innovation: 💰 Public incentives ---> private investment 🌎 Making pollution expensive ---> making zero carbon cheap 💡 Drive innovation ----> drive scale And as Brian said, “If we do this right, we will generate $120B in global energy savings and 2-4x global emissions reductions. Thank you, Brian, for making #DistrictEnergy part of your vision for a #Sustainable future!
