Read all about Luke's story here! 💙
Like many of our participants, Luke faced challenges in his early years. "When I was little, I went to a private school, and I didn't like it. It was pretty chaotic. We decided to put me in homeschool, and that was great," he recalls. Despite finding joy in his supportive family, sports (throwback to when he blew us all away with pro wrestling for his talent at this past year's Big Hearts), and video games, Luke needed more: a community and a space to grow. "I found esp through therapy, and the rest is history… I've been here for ten years, and I have a lot of fun." Inspired by his family and future colleagues, Luke pursued a role as a Joyrista at Java Joy. At the Snack Stand on the esp Athens campus, Luke now makes coffee, meets new people, and brightens their days. "I feel like when people are having bad days, I get to make it better. We impact a lot of people," Luke told us. Being a Joyrista has helped Luke build confidence and overcome timidity. He’s also learned valuable skills like time management, organization, customer service, teamwork, and financial literacy. Luke dreams of showing people with special needs that they can have jobs and prove they are not alone.
