On June 27, the Kansas Health Institute hosted an event to address health insurance disparities in Kansas. The uninsured rate of 8.6 percent remains higher than the national average of 8.0 percent. The event highlighted that Hispanic Kansans have the highest uninsured rate at 20.1 percent, compared to 6.2 percent for non-Hispanic White Kansans. Participants engaged with the latest data through an interactive dashboard and heard from a panel discussing the obstacles the Hispanic community faces in obtaining insurance. The panel discussion also explored ongoing efforts to reduce these disparities and improve coverage among the Hispanic population. #ICYMI, a recording is available online: https://lnkd.in/gzQj-yBR Immunize Kansas Coalition | El Centro, Inc. | University of Kansas Medical Center | Kansas Department of Health and Environment #KsHealth #ksleg

Informing policy. Improving health.
About us
The Kansas Health Institute supports effective policymaking through nonpartisan research, education and engagement. KHI believes evidence-based information, objective analysis and civil dialogue enable policy leaders to be champions for a healthier Kansas. Established in 1995 with a multiyear grant from the Kansas Health Foundation, KHI is a nonprofit, nonpartisan educational organization based in Topeka. The Kansas Health Foundation made its commitment to fund KHI's educational mission to deliver in-depth, nonpartisan information, research and insights based on the conclusion that health policy decisions often were based on fragmented, anecdotal and sometimes biased information. At the time of its founding, KHI was unique in its status as a health policy-focused educational organization that was independent, non-university based and supported primarily through philanthropy. Since then, other states such as Colorado and Ohio have established institutes with a similar model. KHI faculty and staff are drawn from diverse disciplines including medicine, public and community health, health policy and management, law, statistics, data management, anthropology, political science, sociology, health administration, communications and business. KHI continues to be supported by a core-operating grant from the Kansas Health Foundation, and also obtains funding from other regional and national foundations and state and federal agencies. Our Vision: Healthier Kansans through effective policy. Our Mission: Improve the health of Kansans through non-partisan research, education and engagement that support effective policymaking.

KHI had an insightful session on “Integrating AI and ChatGPT into HR Practice” at today’s PSHRA Kansas Chapter meeting! The session was presented by AAron Davis from Wichita State University's Community Engagement Institute (CEI) and KHI's Director of Business Strategy and Innovation, Tatiana Lin. Attendees learned how AI tools like ChatGPT can assist human resources with tasks such as recruitment, talent retention, internal processes and policies enhancement, and fostering innovation. Session-goers also explored crafting effective prompts, improving responses, and delving into the ethical implications of AI in decision-making. Thank you to everyone who participated in the session and made it a success! KHI looks forward to seeing how these insights will be implemented in your HR practices. #ChatGPT #Innovation #HRTech #kansaschapter

Community paramedicine programs use the skills, experience and knowledge of emergency medical services professionals — most often #paramedics and #EMTs — to deliver a wide variety of non-emergency services in the home. These programs can expand access to care, improve patient outcomes and increase health care system efficiency and have shown promising effectiveness in both urban and rural settings. Our latest brief explores the key policies and practices that influence, support or constrain community paramedicine programs.
