Had a great experience working with Georgia Tech Dining for our Georgia Tech H. Milton Stewart School of ISyE Senior Design Capstone project. Our team not only received the ISyE Design with Implementation and Impact Award, sponsored by KS2 Technologies, but we were also given Honorable Mention in Georgia Tech’s Engineering Capstone Design Expo. The Buzzin’ Dumpster Divers helped Georgia Tech Dining develop a plan to increase its landfill diversion rate and bring it closer to Georgia Tech’s 2050 Zero Waste goal. Our team spent over 300 hours digging through trash to collect our own data and estimate Georgia Tech Dining’s landfill diversion rates in different parts of campus. To address challenges found, we developed plans for both front-of-house and back-of-house systems, aiming to achieve zero waste status for both systems. The front-of-house plan involves a 3-phase strategy with the potential to increase landfill diversion from 0% in 2023 to 33% by 2024, 83% by 2025, and 100% by 2030. By reducing Georgia Tech Dining waste that goes to landfill, we estimate Georgia Tech can not only save money but redirect 380,000 pounds of waste from landfills, contribute to the circular economy, and prevent the release of over 21 cars' worth of annual CO2e emissions into the atmosphere each year. Let's all give a BIG KS2 welcome to Jada Wilson!!! 🙌 Jada recently graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in industrial engineering (she JUST graduated in December - Way to go Jada!! 🥇 ) and joined KS2 Technologies as an Associate Developer/Analyst. Jada's hobbies include reading fantasy novels, spending time with friends and family, and building apps for startups or small businesses. (Super Cool Jada!) She chose KS2 as the launching point for her career because she feels like this is going to be an exciting opportunity. She is eager to immerse herself in a dynamic environment where she can both learn extensively and make meaningful contributions across a wide range of projects. Her previous internships have spanned both large corporations and smaller enterprises, but it was in the smaller company that she truly thrived. In an environment with limited resources, she was consistently challenged to tackle problems beyond her initial expertise. This experience played a pivotal role in her personal and professional development, allowing her to expand her horizons and refine her skills. As someone dedicated to continuous improvement, KS2 aligns perfectly with her values, as it embodies a culture where growth is not just encouraged but expected. 🏆 Jada wants to learn as much as she can here at KS2! Her long term career goal is to move into leadership, so she wants to learn how to do her job well, then eventually be able to help others do it even better than she can. Last, but not least, Jada's greatest college achievement was starting a successful business while in school full-time. During COVID, she was supposed to be interning, but the program was canceled. Because she is not the kind of person that can just sit around, she got on YouTube and started teaching herself some creative skills which she used to start and grow a yard sign business.
