Yesterday, Executive Director Sam Flynn headed east to Prestonsburg while Director of Education and Outreach Alyssa Erickson went west to Mayfield for meetings with the Big Sandy and Purchase Area Development Districts. We are grateful for the opportunity to travel across the state and meet in-person with dozens of county judges and mayors who are making decisions about medical cannabis on behalf of their communities.

Today, Governor Beshear announced his support of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ recommendation to ease federal restrictions on marijuana. In a letter sent to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), he expressed that this step would help patients have an alternative to deadly opioids and continued access to safe products while helping communities further reduce crime and illicit drug use. Licensed medical practitioners in Kentucky may now become authorized to write for medical cannabis. Practitioners will need to apply to their state licensing board to become authorized. Once approved, they must register with the Office of Medical Cannabis to begin writing certifications beginning December 1, 2024. On Tuesday, the Office of Medical Cannabis joined the Kentucky Administrative Regulations Review Subcommittee (ARRS) to provide an update regarding the medical cannabis program and its regulatory implementation across the commonwealth.
