Congratulations to LifeSouth blood donor and blood drive organizer Angeleck Williams of Decatur, Ala. for receiving America’s Blood Centers’ Larry Frederick Award during their annual Awards of Excellence. Since 2011, Angeleck has organized a blood drive every year on her birthday, and her drives have collected more than 1,346 units of blood. The award is named after former Oakland police officer Larry Frederick, who was struck in a hit and run accident in 1982 while performing a routine traffic stop and received over 110 units of blood. It recognizes individuals for community leadership in raising awareness about blood donation. We are so proud of Angeleck for her commitment to blood donation and the impact she has in her community.

  • Last week, we celebrated the ribbon cutting of our newly remodeled donor center in Gainesville, Fla. and marked our 50th year serving the community, blood donors, hospitals and their patients. Thank you to all who attended and the Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce for helping us celebrate.   It all began in 1974 when the local Civitan Club answered the call from Gainesville hospitals to provide a community blood bank. In 2024, we now serve over 150 hospitals in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee, and we continue to grow to meet the needs of the communities and hospitals we serve.
