Improving vaccine supply resilience at regional levels requires insights into market health. That's why Linksbridge has supported Gavi and UNICEF in developing a new vaccine market dashboard. Compiling Gavi's market analysis, UNICEF procurement information, and forecasts from the Linksbridge-curated Global Vaccine Market Model, this publicly available tool enhances transparency and expands access to market information. In a move global health stakeholders are calling “devastating,” Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) plans to restructure its operations, phasing out the Access Campaign that has helped secure price reductions for treatments for hepatitis C, HIV and TB, among other victories. The campaign’s functions will be rolled into a new unit known as Access to Products for Healthcare, with a focus on “access to specific products needed by MSF’s humanitarian efforts,” according to Health Policy Watch. Former Access Campaign head Tido von Schoen-Angerer told Health Policy Watch that the change was driven by a faction hoping to depoliticize the organization and “no longer willing to take up the political battle.” This week's issue of Linksbridge Pharma has more on MSF, plus HIV PrEP, Africa-based vaccine manufacturing, and other news important to global health. Can a rapid antimicrobial susceptibility test for UTIs really open up the possibility of previously 'retired' first-line antibiotics returning to use? After 10 years and more than 250 submissions, U.K.-based Challenge Works has awarded the $10.2 million Longitude Prize on AMR to Sysmex Astrego’s PA-100 AST System, a rapid antimicrobial susceptibility test for urinary tract infections. Announcing the award last week, the subsidiary of U.K. innovation agency Nesta said the point-of-care test can diagnose a bacterial infection in 15 minutes and determine the right antibiotic treatment in 45 minutes—opening up the “significant possibility of previously ‘retired’ first-line antibiotics coming back into use.” Today's new issue of Linksbridge Pharma covers antimicrobial resistance, blood-stage malaria vaccines, self-injectable contraceptives for women in LMICs, and more.
