Thank you to Fay Twersky & Jodi Nelson, Ph.D. of the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation for highlighting Listen4Good as a valuable feedback tool for ensuring the voices of community members are amplified and feed into decision-making across nonprofits and funders. Feedback should be an integral part of strategy development. #Feedback #Funders #Nonprofits #CommunityVoice #Impact #SSIR https://lnkd.in/ei7ctvcM?

Read more from L4G Founder and Executive Director Valerie Threlfall about how we worked collaboratively to refined our equity commitment. #equity #DEIB #feedback #nonprofits #funders

Last year, Listen4Good set out to refine our equity commitment. We’ve always believed that integrating client feedback into organizational decision-making is fundamental to advancing equity. In our work with nonprofits and funders, we uplift voices of the systematically marginalized and strengthen organizational systems to redistribute power. To focus our program improvements, we center ‘client voice’ internally as well. That said, given we are still in our early stages as a free-standing entity, we’ve needed to explore more deeply what our equity commitment means for us as a team and what it means for our staff, partners, and the communities we aim to support. So, in 2023, we spent several months working across our 10-member staff team to craft an updated equity commitment—one that centers race explicitly and sets out clear expectations for how we’ll continue to build a culture that shares power authentically and centers the voices of our BIPOC staff. We also outlined how we will continue to partner with organizations and funders to prioritize voices least heard across systems. We’re excited to share our updated plans with our network. In addition to this statement, we’ve developed a three-year internal equity roadmap that we’ll use to guide our organizational development. I’m grateful to the Listen4Good staff team for all their work on this statement and the plan—especially our cross-functional drafting teams—and for pushing each other to create something we all feel ownership of. Our equity development process has been a grounding experience for us as a newly spun out organization and I believe sets us up for our next phase. Special thanks also to Tania Clerisme who guided us through this process. #equity #DEIB #nonprofits #funders #feedback https://lnkd.in/gRPq4QtF

There continue to be critical conversations around centering work on communities, committing to equity, and rethinking how philanthropy and services are carried out. Yet, many of these discussions overlook a vital component — power. Valerie Threlfall, L4G's Executive Director, unpacks the notion of power in her article, "Feedback’s Role in Shifting Power to Those Least Heard," emphasizing how feedback must recognize power dynamics and promote equity at multiple levels. Feedback isn’t just about gathering opinions; it’s about redistributing power and ensuring those historically marginalized have a real voice in decision-making. Defining Equity and Power: Understanding that equity sharpens our focus on outcomes and the structures that produce them, particularly how power must shift long-term. High-Quality Feedback Practices: Implementing feedback systems that prioritize accessibility, inclusivity, and action. Cultural Change: Creating norms that celebrate questioning and incorporate feedback into organizational decision-making. By integrating high-quality, equity-focused feedback systems and participatory client structures, we can genuinely operationalize equity and recenter decision-making power. 📖 Read the full article to delve deeper into these concepts and learn how we can move beyond rhetoric to make meaningful changes: https://lnkd.in/djhmhNCB #Equity #Feedback #CommunityEngagement #Philanthropy #Listen4Good

We are excited to highlight a recent interview with Listen4Good Advisory Board Member and Managing Director of Fund for Shared Insight Melinda Tuan. Melinda joined Filantropía Puerto Rico to discuss Listening, Responding and Shifting Power. She delves into the journey and impact of Listen4Good, which began under Fund for Shared Insight in 2014 and has since become an independent organization. "Listen4Good is a great resource for funders and nonprofits to listen to community. And that's one way for a funder then to listen to community through this capacity building program.... Sometimes the funder will say, 'I've never asked our nonprofit partners what they think of us. So how can I then ask a nonprofit to ask the participants of their programs what they think if we're not walking the walk?' It's been It's a beautiful thing. They're building in this muscle around listening to a variety of different stakeholders." https://lnkd.in/exsgEWw5 #feedback #nonprofit #community #funders #listening
