A traveling fellowship in Architecture
About us
The Lyceum Fellowship was established in 1985 with a mission of advancing the profession of architecture by engaging students in design and travel. In 33 years, the Fellowship has awarded over $495,000 in prize money to 93 students, 56 of whom have travelled to more than 58 countries worldwide, representing 276 months (or 23 years!!) of cumulative travel. In addition, more than 112 students have been recognized with merit or citation awards. Our founder, Jon McKee, was awarded a Medal of Honor from the Boston Society of Architects in 2010 for his vision, benevolence, mentoring, and advancement of the profession of architecture. The Lyceum Fellowship was acknowledged with an AIA Collaborative Achievement Award at the 2015 AIA National Convention. Over the years, the Lyceum Fellowship has drawn many noted architects (including three AIA Gold Medalists), allied designers, writers, and educators to participate as program authors and jurors, creating an exceptional network linked in design collegiality and educational purpose. The competition programs have spanned the continent and the globe, challenging students to think broadly about design issues and their environmental and social impact. The Lyceum Fellowship embraces the concept of a design community. It engages students, educators, architects, and allied professionals in the shared purpose of creative thought and dialog. It expands the boundaries of architecture education—outside of the classroom, across other disciplines, and across the globe—and its contributions are both inspiring and enduring.
