Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

About us

Together, we create life-changing wish experiences for children with critical illnesses. Research shows children who have wishes granted build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. This improves their quality of life and produces better health outcomes. When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope. Yet, not every child in our territory who is eligible for a wish receives one. With your help, we can change that. • ⭐HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! ⭐ Join us in celebrating Amy, our program manager for Volunteer Outreach and Engagement! Six years ago, Amy joined Make-A-Wish Alaska & Washington as a Wish Coordinator, connecting with wish families, including Spanish speaking kids and families in our community. Now, Amy makes wishes possible by reaching out to the community. When asked why wishes are important, Amy said, "Wishes are so important because they give some control back to the wish kiddo and family in a time when so much is out of their control. Being able to plan and dream about what their wish could be gets kids through appointments, treatments, surgeries…It is really incredible to see what happens when hope takes root." Can YOU speak Spanish? We need your help! Visit the link in our bio or email Lindsey at lgoss@akwa.wish.org to learn how you can support the many families we serve.

  • Humans understand pain and suffering. But few have struggled to survive – experiencing what makes or breaks us. Some who do are called Marines. And on a momentous summer day in Washington, that honor would be extended to a four-year-old boy – a historic moment marked by the number 109. Arlan was born with a mitochondrial disease that claims most infants in their first year. Even with a failing heart, five broken bones, thyroid disease and a liver plagued with cancer, Arlan was about to turn five. And, about to realize his wish to become a Marine for life – a distinction only awarded to 108 other people. Read about Arlan's inspiring wish here: https://lnkd.in/gmS6d_Tq
