The mission of Momentum for Health is to help individuals achieve mental and emotional health, discover and reach their potential, and fully participate in life. Momentum builds stronger communities by giving individuals affected by mental and emotional illness treatment, support, and opportunity to lead healthier lives. Our work is based on the knowledge that individuals who have a mental illness can, and do, recover through available, effective, culturally competent services that encourage self direction and hope. We are a private, nonprofit organization that relies on the generosity of individuals, foundations and corporations to support our services.

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the City of Mountain View has added a Mental Health Awareness Proclamation that was presented and read by Mayor Pat Showalter on May 28 at the City Council meeting. President & CEO David Mineta accepted the proclamation on behalf of Momentum and the mental health services (including our TRUST mobile response unit) that we offer in Mountain View and beyond. What an amazing way to end the month of May and #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth! Thank you to the City of #MountainView for this special recognition.

Momentum CEO David Mineta recently participated in the @APAICS Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA & NH/PI) Heritage Month events hosted by the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) in Washington D.C.   The events highlighted the achievements of the AA & NH/PI community and APAICS' 30th anniversary. A key gathering was the Annual Awards Gala, where President Joe Biden delivered a keynote address. David had the distinct honor of presenting the Norman Y. Mineta Lifetime Achievement Award to Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA).   The 2024 APAICS Legislative Leadership Summit offered a platform for discussions on critical issues facing the AA & NH/PI community and the nation. Esteemed speakers explored topics like data disaggregation, artificial intelligence, the upcoming elections, and mental health. The Summit also featured a special fireside chat with Vice President Kamala Harris.   From all of us at Momentum, Happy AA & NH/PI Heritage Month!

Mental health, substance use, lifestyle and health behaviors are all interconnected. At Momentum, we believe in treating the whole person, not just symptoms or diseases in isolation. Historically, mental health and substance use treatment have been separated and organized into two very different fields. However, we know that better outcomes come from integrated care. According to NAMI, 33.5% of U.S. adults with mental illness also struggle with substance use disorders. Behavioral health care, including the services and programs we provide at Momentum, addresses these challenges holistically.  Help us build a new path forward for behavioral health! Donate to the Momentum Fund and support integrated care in our community. Every dollar helps us adapt and innovate to meet evolving needs. https://lnkd.in/gMUrANbK

Happy Mother's Day from Momentum for Health! Today, we're spotlighting Parisi House on the Hill, a unique program of Momentum that is one of only a few residential drug and alcohol treatment centers in Santa Clara County where moms can keep their babies and young children with them. Parisi House, which merged with Momentum in the summer of 2023, provides counseling, education, support, child development services, and a place to live while mothers like Christy (pictured below) rebuild their lives with their children and begin to heal.      This Mother's Day, in support of moms like Christy and programs like Parisi House on the Hill, will you consider making a gift to our Momentum Fund? Every dollar counts and any amount helps us keep up the Momentum!   Give today: https://lnkd.in/gh2zn2i9

Thank you to Senator Dave Cortese and San José Vice Mayor Rosemary Kamei for inviting Momentum for Health to be a part of Saturday’s Gender Equity & Justice Town Hall. Our Chief Administrative Officer, Pat Mitchell, spoke on the topic of intimate partner violence (IPV), which is an issue that touches the lives of many of our clients at Parisi House on the Hill, a program of Momentum for women and moms going through residential treatment for alcohol and drug addiction.   Before the town hall, Pat also participated in a press conference for SB 554, The Survivor's Protection Act, which would allow survivors of sexual/domestic violence or harassment to petition for an order in a California court regardless of residency status. As Pat shared on Saturday, "At Parisi House, we hear firsthand from survivors of sexual and domestic violence who have shared how much safer they feel—for themselves and their children—once they have obtained a restraining order. I can’t imagine not having access to something that could help provide lifesaving protection just because I happened to be in the 'wrong place at the wrong time'."   We were grateful to be involved in both the town hall and press conference this past weekend—two timely initiatives that help advance gender equity and justice in Santa Clara County and beyond.
